I've had pleather belts that lasted for years, and leather belts that didn't. Quality can be unpredictable.
1) Try on random manmade belts at T.J Maxx, Goodwill, or whatever's available to you. I've found some of my best belts this way. At thrift stores, it's easy for the really nice belts to get lost in the jumble of tattered old ones, so search thoroughly.
If that fails...
2) Consider a different material. Could you get a cute canvas belt? One made from bike inner tubes? Nylon seatbelt webbing? I used to have a quilted satin belt, of all things.

A google search for "best vegan belts" turned up some good options, especially if you're looking for plain brown or black.
