Didn't have time to do orange last night, but I can totally get behind some glitter. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to remove!

I always use Seche Vite as my top coat, and lately it's made glitter removal kind of a dream. I usually layer glitter over a cream, so I end up with 5-7 layers on my nail (base, 2-3 cream, 1-2 glitter, SV). After about 4 days, it tends to start peeling (I guess because of all the layers), which isn't necessarily the best for nails, but I love being able to just peel the glitter off! Last time, it wasn't peeling when I was ready to remove the polish, so I added another layer of SV. When it's added to already dried polish, it tends to shrink everything up. It peeled right off about 5 minutes later!

I wouldn't use this method if I wore glitter all the time. Since I only go sparkly about once a month, I think I'm alright.

I've been using a China Glaze one because they had a bin of them on clearance at Sally's. I haven't even chipped a nail yet, just a little tip wear, so i'm not going to take it off until tomorrow.

Wish I'd seen those easy glitter removal suggestions earlier! Ah well. I am all glittered up. Once my iPod starts working again, I'll post a picture. I did use a base coat, so maybe it'll be a little less difficult to remove. Whatever, gonna enjoy my sparkly nails for now!

The easiest/safest way to remove glitter is to pull apart a cotton ball, saturate with remover, and then press down onto your nails for 20-30 seconds. It should all just wipe right off.

I layered my two most obvious glitters. I have tons of polishes that have a glittery sheen to them, but I wanted something chunkier for this. Luckily, I love pink and gold together! I put down a base coat of NYC pearly white (the actual color name isn't on the bottle), then two layers of Wet n Wild Sparked followed by two layers of ELF Golden Goddess. It's perfect for my week off work and the 4th of July!

ETA: Instagram photos are so terrible. The pink glitter is really small and concentrated, while the gold has some small specks but mostly larger bits.

Some of these are toeing the line between glitter and shimmer, but even if I pulled out those i'd still have over 40 bottles of glitter.

Wow. There isn't even that much glitter in my local Boots shop.

I've stared at my polish racks twice now and just can't decide. I think I'm going to layer different glitters over each other every day.

Yeah, in the future we will do combos, like glitter + purple (which can be purple glitter or glitter over purple since not everyone has 40+ bottles of glitter), and shimmer/holo is another future selection.

I really did not think I had THAT much glitter, that's easily 1/4th of my collection.

Well, glitter is amazing so it's justified. I'm a little afraid to count mine. When I got the second huge rack, I stopped counting my grand total too. I haven't bought many at all this year though, so maybe not as bad as it could be.

Usually for the challenge I just take a small container and put the polishes, nail file, etc. in it and sit it here on my desk. I had to empty a whole basket, redistribute the non-glitters to other baskets, and even then it was overflowing. I have three baskets and two shoebox sized plastic containers (and actually I am out of room and need another basket).

i have a bunch of shimmers/holos, but only two(!!) glitters. well, three, if you count my newest purchase i guess (DL mermaid's dream), but i'm saving that for my next full mani/pedi. anyhow, i wore one of the glitters for calcy week, and the other one is coincidentally (ha, as if) navy blue, so i'm a little excited that it coordinates with my idea to have a patriotic mani/pedi this week.

I have only one glitter! I am trying to think of what I can do to make it as over the top as possible, though. This is a challenge after all!

I'm still layering. I always have a problem with jelly glitters not drying and I end up with dents, so I'm waiting hours between each layer to be sure.

mbm: is that three bottles of the same pale blue china glaze?! It/they are pretty--what is it?

No, they are all different! It's just kind of hard to tell. One is Snow Globe which is a winter holiday color, one is a Halloween color that is similar but has a greenish sheen in the right light, and one is Luxe and Lush from the Hunger Games collection, which has shredded opal-y glitters in them.

I do have doubles of some of my favorites, though.

Here is a good comparison of Snow Globe and Make A Spectacle:

http://nonekkidnails.blogspot.com/2012/ ... china.html

I think I might do five different colors because, how else am I going to decide?!

I gave up trying to photograph this. In the photos my nails like kind of bald, but in person, you really can't even see my nail line. I love it--very sparkly and happy.

Here is what I used:
Image
Pepite has holographic glitter <3 I think Azure does too, but it's tiny. I used one coat of Delice as the base. That is a fairly sheer peachy/pink/nude glitter.

Image

It probably would have photographed better if I had used a brighter base, but I love how glitter polish looks plain.

(that's bird deposited strawberry on my finger, not blood!)

I missed orange week! There's no point paintig my nails when I'm away from home & can't take remover etc. It'll just chip as soon as I get on the plane & then I'll hate it for the whole trip.

MBM I also have about 40 glitter polishes not including the slight shimmer kind! I started by ruling out all of my favourites (because that's not a challenge!) & in the end decided to only use polishes I've worn once or less! Pic's later!

I cannot get a photo of my glitter mani. This is the best one and it looks really yellow gold but it's not, it's rose gold! GAH.

The red nail is Orly Star Spangled, a Blue Cross snowman polish that's super fine red glitter in a clear base, and Ruby Kisses Ruby Slippers layered. The blue nail is China Glaze Skyscraper, China Glaze Dorothy Who?, and Pretty Serious BSOD layered. The other nails are HIPPxRGB Nail Foundation F1 with LA Girl Glitter Addict in Animate, Wet n Wild Fastdry Caught on Sapphire, and All That Glitters Spotty Dotty Light.

Wow I love everyone's glitter! LW your five layer Chanel looks beautiful, did you use azure for the topcoat?

I missed orange week too, and my glitter came out boring - Nicole 'my heart's a-glitter' which should look awesome and sparkly like jessi's sparkly red, but it doesn't really. I may have to re-glitter with a better choice.
