A perfect example of why, no matter what certifications the brand has or what their FAQ says, I always email them. I apprecaite that they were so honest and up front about their change in the email I received.

Damn it, I bought some Boscia cleanser just a little while ago.

LH do you know anything about Art Deco?

I know they have some vegan products and they say they don't test. In fact, their rep on another board was absolutely adamant that they don't do any animal testing but they do sell in China. The rep says they don't have to test because all their ingredients are on the Chinese government's approved list.

I did find something when I googled that might suggest this could be true, but nothing concrete.

Also, not sure if you're interested in UK brands but both M&S (Marks & Spencer) and Superdrug's own brands have leaping bunny certification. Superdrug's "B" Makeup Range is all vegan and the rest of their products are marked whether or not they are.

I keep hearing about a brand called The Balm lately and would love to know their cruelty-free/vegan status. I can see on their website that some things are obviously not vegan based on a quick scan on ingredients, but the sell so much stuff (makeup, nail polish, hair, and body) that I figure some of it has to be vegan.

MBM, The Balm are available to buy on Cute Cosmetics (a UK website) and they only sell non-animal tested brands. The blurb about them on there says "TheBalm's products are paraben-free and cruelty-free and their shadows and blushes are talc-free."

I have no idea about any parent company.

When I did a vegan search on Cute Cosmetics, a couple of their bronzers and highlighters came up for face products.

Edit: some of their blushers/shadows apparently have carmine in.

I think someone mentioned The Balm highlighter powder as being vegan in another thread. MaryLou-manizer or something. I'm waffling between trying that or one of the Hourglass lighting powders.

I haven't been able to get a clear stance from The Balm about selling where testing is required by law. When I first reached out to them a couple of years ago they gave me a really weird response and I've been wary since to be honest.

But, I'm back in touch with them and it sounds like it things could be okay. The reply about animal testing contains some contradictory statements. I'm hoping that the next email I get clarifies it a little more. The Balm told me that a lot of their items contain animal and animal derived ingredients, and that they can clarify on a product by product basis but not an ingredient basis.

I haven't heard of Art Deco. I'll definitely look into them. However, on the approved list or not, all cosmetics are still tested on by the Chinese government from time to time. So I wouldn't trust them to be cruelty free if they are sold in China.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of, so I've avoided them.

That was me. Mary-Lou Manizer has a super short ingredient list that looks okay to me - I hope I'm not wrong! I've seen mentions of them being CF in a few places, but this blogger had a pretty good email exchange with them - http://humanelychic.blogspot.com/2013/03/thebalm.html.

The list says no, but if I recall correctly they have changed their answers about vegan products and being CF a lot. I just avoid them because it's too much headache.

Tanisha, so Inglot isn't cruelty-free? I see a cruelty-free beauty vlogger using them all the time.

NYX is cruelty free and has a lot of vegan options! :)

They started selling in Hong Kong (where animal testing is NOT required) and it caused a lot of rumors that they were no longer cruelty free. But they definitely are.

Inglot told me that they do not check the cruelty free stance of their suppliers. Because of this, I list them as a brand to avoid. They took issue with this, saying that they were cruelty free. When I pointed out what their email said they then admitted on Twitter they were not checking if any of their suppliers were cruelty free or not. They said that they would get back to me about it. It's been a few weeks and I haven't received any updates (my tweets and emails have gone un-answered) so it's not looking so good.

Some people may trust them to be cruelty free but... I don't say any brand is cruelty free unless I know that the brand, a parent company, a 3rd party, an affiliate and the suppliers are all free of animal testing. I can't say the same for all bloggers in this niche.

Btw, it's Tashina :)

Oh shiitake, I know that and just typed it wrong! Sorry.

The youtuber in question is one that I have gotten bad info from in the past so i'm really not surprised. Youtube is the worst source for info about CF/vegan products.

Do you have a decent list of vegan stuff? Last time a list was posted I ran out to Ulta and all the things I wanted that were marked vegan were far from vegan.

I don't. They don't have one that's available and since formulas may change, I'm hesitant to make one that isn't official. Are there specific items that you're looking at right now?

Does anyone have info on Bite Beauty? The internet is telling me they're cruelty free, and that some of their products are vegan, but I'm not finding details.

yes: stay matte not flat powder, studio liquid liner (black), mood lip gloss (affectionate), nail polish: eggplant, moonwalk, dark glitter, pastel lavender...

thanks!

Sorry for the delay! I wasn't able to find ingredient lists for all of these products and haven't heard back from my contact. The Stay Matte Not Flat powder is okay. I can't find ingredients for the Studio liner online and haven't seen it in stores. The lip glosses and nail polishes are tricky because each shade could have a different ingredient list. I couldn't find the ingredients online and have not seen these products in stores.

I was just killing some time on the sephora website and only found one product of theirs without some combination of beeswax/carmine/lanolin/honey. And it's a boring lip/cuticle balm.
