Does anyone know if Redken Smooth Lock Butter Silk is vegan? If not, does anyone have any recommendations for vegan products to help moisturize hair? Thanks.

Redken is not a cruelty-free brand, so no. Can you be more specific, are you looking for a conditioner or something that's leave in...?

That's what I suspected. Thanks.

Honestly, I don't even know. All I know is that my hair has been getting dry and damaged lately and I would like to change it. So really anything that addresses that, whether it's conditioner or an extra product, would be welcome.

That's the best deep conditioner I've ever used, and I'm a hair product junkie, so I've used a lot of them. If you're in the US you can buy it from Ulta.

You can also get it at TJ Maxx, mine always has a ton of DermOrganic.

Alternately, Beauty Without Cruelty is an all-vegan line. Desert Essence is another good line, they aren't all vegan but they only uses beeswax and honey and it's an easy check. Nature's Gate is all vegan but I don't know if their conditioners are any good.

I've been using Neuma and it is amazing but I had to order online from Amazon.

I use this and it's awesome. My hair straightener recently malfunctioned and singed some of my hair off and this stuff has really been helping me to get through it.

Thanks everyone!

I've been vegan for over 4 years now and I've pretty much figured out the food stuff (there are a few ingredients I always have to check but I can pretty much figure it out) but hair products and similar are hard. It doesn't help that I'm not the most beauty savvy person either.

Holy crepe, I want to like buy you an Edible Arrangement or something. That's very, very useful information.

Oh, and second the Neuma rec. Their moisture line is really nice.

Every Nature's Gate conditioner I've tried has been crepe. It didn't do anything bad to my hair, but definitely didn't moisturize it. Just this morning I ordered a couple of Desert Essence ones to try out. I'll have to check out Marshalls (no TJ Maxx here) for the DermOrganic. Thanks for the tip.

i use Paul Mitchell super skinny smoothing serum, which I've been using for a few years and really like. It's expensive, but you only need a tiny bit.

I use the Super Skinny too, just a tiny pump, but technically products like that where they're mostly silicones just trap the existing moisture in your hair, as opposed to adding it. I read some article about it a week or two ago, explaining the science behind it, and I should have bookmarked it, but didn't. So I'll put in a lightweight leave-in, and then the Super Skinny after. It seems to be working well, and I'm babying the hell outta my hair cause I'm trying to grow it super long.

Just to follow up: I ended up getting some DermOrganic moisture masque (I thought it was a leave-in product for some reason, but it's actually conditioner) and it is fabulous. I'm actually glad I got the conditioner because it seems to work perfectly well and that way I'm replacing a product rather than adding another one, which is cheaper. Thanks guys!
