it looks as you might imagine it to look ...

Inika Natural Mineral Light Reflect Illuminisor, Nvey Eco mascara & Korres Mango Butter lipstick

bit of light on the cheeks, blonde eyelashes darkened so they show & a slick of shine on the lips ...

off to a meeting of the local Humanist Society ...

Thank you!! You have no idea how happy that makes me because my eyebrows were shiitake for so many years. I grew them for ages then had them threaded and she did a really good job.

Here's an eye of the day from yesterday. I got a couple of Furless' mineral shadows when I ordered a brush set and I love them. I got lots of compliments on this yesterday, even though I think I was having bad liner day. Camera washes out the colour.

Baps, I think your bad liner day is better than my good liner day, for sure! I love the colours, they're gorgeous!

We've been having some nice sunny winter days lately, so I decided against my usual heavy black liner and just did a lick of gold.

I love that gold; it's beautiful. My favorite makeup counter SA did a similar color on me with one of the spongy eye shadow pots and I liked it, but knew I'd never be able to apply it presentably.

I need this thread to come to my house and teach me how to do eye makeup because I'm really hopeless.

Thanks! It's Goldilux, from Sugarpill - I spent ages looking for the perfect true bright gold, and theirs totally delivered.
I just use an angled eyeliner brush and sweep along my eye line in two strokes - one from the inner corner, and one from the outer corner. I'm not amazing at getting a really thin line, and the nice thing about using loose eyeshadow as eyeliner is that it's easy to wipe off if you need. I usually touch-up with qtips after applying because I'm pretty clumsy with these things!

Honestly, eye make-up is just about practice. And being willing to fork up. Have you tried watching youtube videos for eye make up, lw?

yes :(

I can't keep one eye closed without holding it down! This makes it really hard to apply liner or shadow. Do I have freakish eyes or is this normal? And, if so, how do you get over that?

Practice is hard because I can't use remover very much since it all feels like acid on my skin, plus it all gets in my contacts and makes my vision filmy. If I don't have contacts in, I can't see what I'm doing since I'd need my face two inches from the mirror.

I can't either, so either you're normal or we're both freaks. I can close my left eye and keep the right one open, but I cannot close the right one and keep the left eye open. So when I apply eye makeup I'm always just kind of... squinting? That's not the right word, but I just almost close my eyes, I guess.

That's fine. With most liner application you're going to want to be pulling your eyelid taut anyway. You can do the same for eye shadow if you need to.

If remover hurts you could try using vitamin e oil, coconut oil, or a gentle moisturizer with a cotton pad. They will all remove product gently.

I often use a 12x magnifying mirror from Tweezerman which has suckers on the back so you can attach it to your usual mirror. I find if I can get my makeup to look okay in this mirror it looks pretty good to the human eye at normal size.

I also find if I lean forward while applying make up it helps prevent any loose particles falling into my eye (or onto the skin below the eye).

This tool might be of use to some people. (I have the Tweezerman version, also pictured under the main photos, but this one looks better.) http://nessasarymakeup.blogspot.co.uk/2 ... scara.html

Can anyone think of a vegan rose gold eyeshadow? Something that looks like this:

Image
(not my pic)

I used to have a Revlon cream one that was just perfect for my skin tone. I really only buy ELF right now because it's so cheap (and I like their mineral shadows...they stay put!), but I would be willing to shell out a bit more for that color because it looks so damned good on me.

Baps, how do you manage to get a closeup of your eye like that?

I take a tonne with my camera phone up close using a mirror to help me get my eye in frame. then crop it.

LW you don't need to close your eye for shadow or liner. In fact I often get a better result if I have my eye open and looking down.

Thanks! I have a regular red and a dark red, and I probably wear one every couple months. I like how it looks, but I hate the feeling of having stuff on my face. I'm a weirdo.

Cute! I wish I could figure out how to make dramatic lipstick work on me.

Find the right color! There is a shade of red for everybody.

I'm horrible with makeup, but I love dramatic lipstick. I'll wear any color. Ok, except for the weird Illamasqua green, but I'd admire the heck out of anyone brave enough to rock it.

The last one I got was a bright coral (usually BAD for me), but it has enough of a blue based pink to really work on me.

It's just so trial and error! I buy all of my makeup online, and I find it rare that the colors on the site look the same as the actual product. With things like blush and nail polish, I can make it work, but lipstick is hard for me. For whatever reason, all of the reds that I've tried make me look super washed out and pale. I have a warm skin tone, so colors that are even slightly cool make me look sick/dead. Also! I have a hard time balancing my eye makeup with lipstick. I usually do a fairly made up eye, as that is my favorite feature (although 'made up' for me is still pretty basic...but a shimmery shadow, some liner, and tons of mascara) and when I combine that with a bold lipstick, I feel like I look like I've overdone it. Why is lipstick so hard?

Maybe you can find a beauty blogger who has a similar skin tone and see what looks good.
