Fifteen "fashion addicts" take a whole year off of buying clothes. One year, no fashion purchases, not even fabric to make clothes with. Could you do it?

http://freefashionchallenge.com/

I like to think that I could, but I don't know. I'm not much of a shopper, but I do have some junky fast fashion flats littering my doorway.

Maybe, depends on what stage of the life cycle my bras are in. They're the only clothing item I regularly replace. The rest of me is a mess and could only benefit from me not being able to buy more clothes.

No. I could not. Definitely not. I love clothes and I live in a place where we have four seasons and I need all sorts of layers and coats and shiitake... or maybe that's just my justification for buying clothes. Either way, NO.

I'd like to think that I could, but I doubt it. I'm really good at justifying breaking my own rules. For example my husband and I decided not to buy anything new (other then like food and toiletries and stuff) last year and while we've probably cut our new purchases in half in favor of 2nd hand we definitely have found some major loop holes in the rules we set out.

No.

Absolutely not.

I'm actually trying not to buy new clothes/shoes/accessories for about a month to save money for an upcoming trip and I'm already thinking of all sorts of excuses to cave. I need to find some time to make myself stuff.

Good for them though. I hope they can do it! Maybe if they make it I'll have some hope for myself.

I've already done that. I rarely buy clothes and wear things until they fall apart. I probably didn't buy anything for 2 years while in grad school.

I could and have done so, I never got used to buying new clothes until I started working at a clothes store, and even now its maybe twice or thrice a year.

I plan on doing some serious shopping in the new year, though XD

could and have. barring special occasions that require clothes of a certain style (new jobs, funerals), i only buy clothes when i need a new size or when the bulk of my existing garments have developed holes and/or tears. i have a younger sister who donates "hand-me-downs" to me because she's so ashamed of my wardrobe.

I know I could do it because I pretty much can't buy new clothes with how little I get paid. I had to buy new clothes a little over a year ago when I lost 75 lbs, but since then I've basically just bought a handful of clothes from Goodwill and a coat from Target because I didn't have one.

So yes, but not very willingly. I'd much rather have extra money for sexy clothes.

Totally could. Makeup, on the other hand, wouldn't last a month.

Yeah, I've done it easily. I go clothes shopping maybe once a year, usually after Christmas to spend gift cards from family.

could, have, and do
I very seldom by clothes for myself. The last time I spent any significant amount of money on clothing [$50.00+] was at least 6 years ago.

I doubt I could really do it because I hardly have any clothes to begin with and I just buy stuff as needed. I wouldn't really need to do it though because I'm not a fashion addict.

Not right now, cause all my underwear have holes. If I had a new stock of underwear and socks, I guess I could. I don't buy that many clothes.

i could do it if I could go on one last shopping trip and get new bras/underwear/belts etc. I have so many clothes and fabric laying around that I totally forget to utilize.

I didn't buy any clothes for 6 months once. Following the realization that I was an emotional shopper I decided to quit buying clothes for 6 months. I was able to save up a ton of money during that time and it definitely curbed my addiction. I'm less about Italian denim now and more ok with urban outfitters generic jeans :)

I orginally thought no, because I need some new undies, but actually I think I could. I would just be wearing some uncomfortable pantaloons for a year.

This "buy nothing for a year" has become a fab here in Sweden among the liberal middle class. I don't really get it what is so hard not to live a life for a year with out buying the most essential if you all ready have everything you need. For a person with 5-8 pair of trousers it can't be that hard....I used to live on $20 a week and buying new clothes wasn't really a big issue when putting food on the table was the main problem.

I'm sure I could do it, because I'm really good at willpower-type challenges (aka stubborn). But I would be sad and my underwear situation would be pretty dire.

For fashion, definitely. I think I buy a new article every four months or so right now, when I get my semi-annual urge to go shopping. But I wear out my clothes easily, so I could only go without buying new clothes for a year if I got new shoes and bras as Christmas gifts this year.

This is about where I am. I go for a while before needing new stuff. I did buy some warmer running gear for this fall/winter, but I got it at a thrift store. I'm sort of getting the itch to try out this little experiment. I'd need 2 or so new work shirts, but then I'd be set.
