I don't even remember the last time I bought clothes. I'm currently sporting a rather glorious crotch-hole in my one pair of jeans that I wear every day. I should probably replace them, but going shopping makes me stabby.

I shop online and send back. I hate shopping in real life. If I go in real life, I have to be in the most calm state of mind ever because I get so enraged/frustrated when I try clothing on. It's not enjoyable.

I wear clothes until they are more hole than fabric. And I only need enough to last 3 or 4 days because I do washing all the time. So yes, I could definitely go a year without buying clothes.

me too. I don't enjoy shopping, so it's not a big sacrifice to avoid buying new clothes. But for those shop-a-holics out there who say they want to curb it--what about targeting the money you spend on clothes for something you normally couldn't afford and want? Save the clothes money in a fund until you can afford to take that trip to Asia or whatever. Or if you can already afford travel and lots of clothes, then maybe a special experience like sky diving or something. So it seems like less of a sacrifice, more like delayed gratification.

Except for undergarments (incl. socks/tights) I could do it and have thought about it. I've already committed myself to no new clothing in 2011 except for the aforementioned things--which I refuse to buy second-hand. Hmmmm... I know I could if my weight doesn't fluctuate. That's the only issue.

My straps aren't working too hard and I don't have a Chester, so that explains a lot.

I'm with you girl, no animals and just enough in the boobage department, nothing more. I go through jeans like crazy! But I also happen to be a mad fidget, so I've ripped more jean crotches than I care to admit squirming around into different crazy positions as I study...

I wish I could wear men's jeans. I tried some on once and they're so much sturdier than women's jeans. Now I get how guys can wear the same jeans for a decade while mine wear out in two or three years.

Maybe the spandex-y stretchy stuff weakens it? I don't know. Men's underwear are great, too. I'm buying stupid pantaloons more than I think I should need to, and my husband still has a bunch of the boxers he's had since we got together!

(Confession: I wore his briefs one day this week, and whitey-tighties are uber comfy! I may convert to dudely underwear. And jeans, apparently.)

I've already done that. I rarely buy clothes and wear things until they fall apart. I probably didn't buy anything for 2 years while in grad school.

Same here.

Might be a good New Year's resolution however if I decide to buy into that type of thing this year. Heh, not likely.

Ha, not even a little bit. And it's the fabric part that gets me. I love to sew myself skirts and dresses and shorts. No way could I go a whole year without buying fabric!

To be honest, I don't think I could do this.
I go through my shoes pretty fast, and I don't have many pairs to begin with.

I'm going to try really hard to buy only clothes I absolutely need this year, as a student I really don't have money to buy anything other than necessities for a while. It might be hard though, I really love shopping.

Technically, I probably could. I might need some new underwear or a new bra or something, but otherwise I'm always around the same size and I have plenty of clothes.

But could I really? No way. I like shopping for new clothes. I don't go super often, but I probably buy a couple of new things every month. And boots. I have a boot-collecting problem that I don't want to solve.

I could and have for long periods of time.
I just bought a new pair of jeans, 2 pr shoes some socks and a shirt for less than 60.00 such a splurge for me. I also was gifted 2 pair of shoes, 2 pair of jeans 3 organic cotton sweaters. Most new clothing I have had in 6 years I don't expect to buy much until I graduate in 2 years.

Ok, well, I could, but I'd be sad to give up the bimonthly goodwill perusal!

And I've been wanting more comfy brown socks for work and non white colored socks for anytime, that aren't thin crappy microfiber.

But I did buy some shorts from goodwill a week or 2 ago, and a suit coat a few weeks earlier at goodwill I want to find pants that go with (they actually HAD the pants that go with it, but womens pants dont work for me since I don't have womenly hips).

And I'll be buying uniform items but I don't think that should count. However I will need some more uniform shirts and maybe more uniform pants.

I think I'm going to try not buying clothes this year, I definitely have enough. It will motivate me to lose the 5 pounds I gained too, so that said clothes fit better again.

I hope shoes aren't included in this? Well, I think I'll try shoes too.

I'm going to look so unfashionable this time next year!

ok, i am going to try this in 2011....
im going to buy no new clothes this year, except underwear, bras, socks (including tights), and any other undergarments as necessary (like slips or shapewear should i need any for some reason).
i can buy second hand and vintage, and i can pay for alterations as necessary.
the one exception is that if i start a new job with a different dress code (i wear jeans most days to work now).
i got a few gift cards for christmas that i'll use to buy the stuff above (socks, tights, underwear, etc.)
i think this will be good for me. i still enjoy thrifting and buying vintage so it wont be too bad, i dont think. and i always moan and groan about paying, say $50 for a vintage dress but i hardly blink about buying a $200 dress from anthropologie.
