I see there are some synthetic docs out there, but they're all metallic blue or gold or something. Does anyone know if there are plain black vegan doc martens out there?

DMs doesn't make vegan shoes anymore but there's are 2 companies that do dupes that come pretty close:

Dammit!

I'm still trying to spend my Zappos gift certificate, and was hoping I'd find some vegan docs there. DAMN.

Oh well. Thanks for the links!

hmm, you might find something similar on Zappos, but I don't know of anything. I'll keep my eyes open though.

I'm getting these as soon as I can. I don't know if they're exactly what you want, but they're synthetic material combat boots.

The vegan Docs were so great. I still have two pairs. I would be able to wear them too because they still look pretty darn good, but they are adjusted for me with wider feet at a much heavier weight.

I use my dark silver pair with really thick socks as my motorcycle boots just because I can't find anything better/safer.

Maybe the newer Vegetarian Shoes versions are as good as they used to be when they were official?

I still have a pair of 8-hole vegan oxblood DMs and they're so much more comfy and better looking than the VS ones...but I'm insanely picky. RIP vegan DMs. *cries*

but I haven't tried the Veganline Bouncing Boots ones yet, I'm pretty curious if they're better than the VS ones.

back in the day they did, yeah. But then they moved their manufacturing from England to China and VS said they wouldn't distribute the vegan DMs anymore because of labor concerns, so DMs stopped producing them and VS took over manufacturing their own version.

I still have the vegan DM oxfords I got back in like 2000 and they have held up so well! I've worn them every winter for a decade, which feels really long now that I say it. I guess the equivalent is this pair http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/airse ... 500_p.html Still, I'm sort of sad they're not DMs anymore.

they didn't- VS just distributed and sold the vegan DMs.

I've been wanting to buy a pair of those forever. Do they loosen up? They seem so stiff and that's one of the reasons I haven't ordered them yet. Sounds like you really like em though, so they must be comfortable.

I've got them, bough them when I was visiting the UK last winter and wore them constantly cos I didn't have any other weather-appropriate shoes. They were awesome and I didn't get any blisters, despite walking quite a lot in them. I didn't find them to be too tough/inflexible even new. So, definitely comfortable! My friend bought the combat boots and was not so lucky - they took a really long time to get soft enough to be comfy for everyday wear.

Mine are pretty much unwearable now, especially if it's been raining, but I still refuse to let go.

Yeah, I came across those! They're not really me, unfortunately. I just want the plain black ones. I know they will look great on Calcuhater, though!

i'll have to wait and see. i'm okay with a little flashy, as long as they're not too.
also, will have to figure out if i will love them even more as they get beat-up. that is kind of a must.

That's the only thing stopping me from getting the velvet ones. I'm OK with looking pretty scruffy, but I fear that scuffed up gunky velvet has the potential for looking bad.
