Good to know about the sizing.

Good to know about the sizing. Quarantined.

I can't decide between the high and the button ones. I find the button ones less ugly but think the tall might be more practical.

Ok, so this is probably a lost cause, but here goes. Shoe mavens: I want boots. I crave boots! Stylish boots I'll actually want to wear!

I need ankle to below knee boots, preferably black, but the right pair in grey would work too. Not too tight on the foot because even socks on my numb foot/nerve damage area drive me bonkers. Heel is either completely flat or 1 1/2" or 2 1/2", but platform is ok. (My old Docs don't work well because even that little 3/4" heel hurts me). I know the heights are weird, but those are the main heel heights that don't put pressure on my spine. They have to have good support.

I do not care what boots meeting these requirements cost as long as it's not, you know, Stella McCartney. My mom will pay for at least half as my Christmas gift if they are expensive.

Is this possible? Any ideas? I've been looking for nice boots that are safe for me to wear for years now. I mostly just wear my Birkenstocks and have cold toes. I've been looking at Zappos constantly and never find anything suitable. I had some Calvin Klein boots, but they are too flimsy for me to be stable. (If stability isn't an issue, CK often has some really nice totally synthetic boots for around $98. They are nice quality, just not super sturdy--more of a fashion item.)

LW, have you tried DSW? I have most of my luck there. Unfortunately, I'm still running on a pair of pregan black boots (Fluevogs that were a lot of money, so I'm not replacing them until I really, really fell I've gotten my money's worth!) so I have no good tips, but when I was in there earlier this week, they had a lot of nice stuff in the store, and the site has even more.

Unrelated: while walking to the bus yesterday morning, the sole fell off my work shoes. Yikes! So I made an emergency DSW trip on the way home and picked up these Dr. Scholl's:

Image

I was pretty psyched, as Dr. Scholl's so rarely are vegan, but the cushioning in them is SO COMFORTABLE. I have a pair of heels from them that are just so comfortable, so I was really excited to find a vegan option that is good for work (since I stand all day, even the comfiest pair of heels really wears me down, especially with my multi-mile walk). I'm unsure about having patterned shoes (other than fun dress up shoes, my shoes tend to be very simple), but they didn't have them in solid black, so stripes it is! We'll see how it works out.

LW - have you looked at the Jambu boots on zappos? A lot of them are ugly, but I got a pair of black ankle boots that I really like - they're pretty tall but most of the height is platform, so I think the true heel height is somewhere around 2 and 1/2 inches. They're really comfortable (I can walk about 4 miles in them before the balls of my feet start to hurt from the heel elevation, which is better than I usually do in heeled boots).

I also have a pair of riding boots from soft soles with low heels (1 and 1/2 ish) that are also pretty comfortable, but it may be worth your checking out their selection online to see if anything looks like it would work for you.

Here's the link to the jambus: http://www.zappos.com/jambu-amber-jambu-black

Those are cute, but that heel isn't going to work.

We have some DSW here, but I gave up on them because they always seem like a junk pile of out of season shoes with crepe all over the floors and nowhere to sit. (Or weird shoes). Maybe they are hit or miss? I'll stop by this weekend.

Wish I could wear flats, but I have really high arches and just step out of them.

LW - one other place to try - yesstyle.com. They've gotten more expensive recently (exchange rate issues, I think) and the quality is inconsistent (I've had shoes last years and others fall apart after 3 wears - but you can see the difference when you get them and return any crepe ones), but they have a great selection and I've been really happy with 2 of the 3 shoes I've bought there. I got a pair of absolutely flat, fairly roomy riding boots there that I wore daily in the fall/winter for years (I eventually wore a hole in them, but definitely feel like I got my money's worth). I couldn't find the exact same ones, but it does look like there's a decent selection of flat boots on there (I think about 75% of their stock is fake leather).

LW, I just got these from Zappos: http://www.zappos.com/arcopedico-l19-black
They are pretty comfy, not tight at all. I might be wearing < half size too big but they are great with thick socks. They don't seem crazy warm, though. For the price I hope they last, but I have my doubts about their durability. I will be wearing a sturdier pair in snow/salt.
