A few people mention in a different thread they would like to start a stop spending thread, so I hope they ment it.
I figure people can list what they won't be buying and then update is they do good or bad. And people can give ideas to help too!
Here is my list so far-
Lotion
Perfume
Lip Gloss
Black Gothic cheerleader skirts
band t shirts
diet/meal bars in advance-If I'm going to eat it right away its OK.
Socks
Purses
pretty much anything with hello kitty if it has no purpose.
Hoodies
Vitamin drink stuff

Good thread...
Mine are:
1. cool cheap dishes from thrift shops because I have a kitchen FULL of cool thrift shop dishes. It has to end somewhere...

2. Books like novels that I can check out from the library.

3. Prepared food from Whole Foods... I'm always shocked at how expensive it works out to be and how disappointing it tastes.

Things I will not be buying, starting today:

Treats/snacky foods/sweets
Any makeup at all (but lipgloss/lip balm are my real weakness)
Craft supplies (I have mountains and mountains)
Notebooks/pens (major weakness)
Thrift shop clothes (that I never end up wearing because there's a small thing wrong with them but at the time it doesn't seem like a big deal)

Truthfully, January needs to be a "no spend" month for me to make up for all the spending I did this month. Especially groceries!

I'm not buying clothes in 2011.

Also, no toiletries until I am actually out of something completely. I have ton of soaps, half empty bottles of shampoo, lotions I've forgotten about, and I buy new ones because they're more exciting. Time to use everything up!

Is it wrong that I'm secretly using this thread to get ideas for things to buy? muahaha.

um, but my list has this on it
tea (until I run out, which is a million years from now)
soap (until I run out, maybe around spring)
books not for school (except for comics).

I'd like to stop buying books and just check them out from the library instead.

Furthermore, less impulse buying at Whole Foods, more meal planning.

eta: I recently made the simple seitan recipe, and it was not hard at all, so I should never spend $4 on a package of seitan ever again.

Great thread, especially since every time I venture into this room, I get ideas about things to buy.

I am going to not buy: clothing, shoes, and pantry items till I use everything up that we have in the cupboards.

I should add books until I read the ones I have....which will be forever!
I'm also adding I am not printing any pictures until I deal with the 3000 I have in a box.

The PPK should do a "half used toiletry swap". Then it'd be like getting new stuff!

I'm not buying any books.
I never buy books anyway, unless Isa comes out with a new cookbook, so I figure I'm safe.
I'm not going to buy any fabric or craft supplies.
I never buy these things anyway.
I'm not going to buy any alcohol.
I don't drink.
I'm not buying any...

fork it, everything else is up for grabs. I'd be a liar if I even said I wasn't going to buy something. I shop a lot. However, I am going to work on making lists and sticking to them so I cut down on impulse buying/needless purchases. Baby steps.

My problem isn't even that I buy too much of one thing, it's that I buy things to replace things that don't necessarily need replacing yet.

In a small example - I have a loaf of bread and I get down to the last two pieces so I put bread on my shopping list. I buy some and when I go to unpack my groceries I see the fresh new bread and decide I want some so I start eating it, the new loaf replaces the old loaf without the old loaf even being done yet. It still had two pieces left, and while they weren't as enticing as the new bread, they were still perfectly good.
Now replace bread with kitchen appliances, books, running shoes, makeup, facial cleanser, nail polish, socks, bras, jackets, and shampoo and you'll see where I spend all my money.

So... you kinda fall into the "needless purchases" category?

I don't see a problem with having more/new any of those.

I might be the wrong person to be talking about this, because I do the same thing, just with different things.

I'm trying not to buy more fabric until I use up all my stash, same with yarn. But it's so hard! What if I go back for it and they don't have it D:

And I will not buy more tea. I will not buy more tea. I am deleting my Adagio and Teavana bookmarks because I will not buy more tea, darn it!

I also need to cool it on buying cookbooks. Once Appetite for Reduction gets here, no more for awhile.

I DO need a new coat though. Three cheap hoodies are not equal to one weather-proof jacket.

I do the exact same thing too, I always have like 4 bottles of body lotion and shampoo and conditioner under my sink. Same thing with workout clothes; I never let my old ones wear out before I buy new ones.

So lets talk about using up the partials. I have 30 or so partial lotions. Should I use the most empty first every day until its gone or mix it up so it's like getting a new one every few days? I feel like I accomplished something when I use the whole thing-it never happens but when it does it is so gratifying!
I just got all excited because I found a bottle of kiss my face lotion I forgot I had! I just got out of the shower but I want to take another so I can put that lotion on instead of the stuff I have on.
