What color stockings/tights can I wear with a navy dress? Arghaaa. I wore it Christmas eve but it was at my house so didn't wear tights (or shoes). But I want to wear it in England this week (!) and obviously need to wear something on my legs. I have a lottt of black stockings in dif patterns and textures but I am not ok with mixing navy and black (or brown and black). I have various grays but it's a nice dress and gray definitely dresses it down. And I am not ok with beige or white stockings. Yeesh.

Also you know leg warmers? I want arm warmers. Do they exist? I have lots of short sleeve or cap sleeve dresses but I have bad upper arms so I try to hide them, but cardigans throw off the whole shape of the dress usually and make me look dowdy. So. Yeah. I want arm warmers.

Yes. I've seen some just snipped off a snug fitting shirt or knit ones like that extend over the hands with little thumb holes or attached to fingerless gloves. Also, plenty of places online sell them.

What's so bad about mixing black and navy?

sometimes navy and black are so similar in color that it looks like you just thought you were picking black tights to go with your black dress and messed up or something.

i make arm warmers out of knee socks by cutting off the foot part and cutting a little thumb hole

also, with a navy dress i'd probably just wear beige stockings or maybe white depending on the navy

arm warmers are for lower arms, not for biceps. if you hate your arms, dont buy sleeveless!! for a navy dress wear navy or gray tights.

Yes. Or possibly plum depending on your overall style and that of the dress...? But then what colour are the shoes?

ETA: Though truthfully, I believe a true, rich black goes with almost anything.

Yeah I know arm warmers are technically for lower arms but don't impose your fascist rules on me!

What about a shimmery silver tight? I used to have some about 12 years ago, and lo and behold, they are around again! Adds a nice touch. Here's an example, found on the ever popular hottopic website:

http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Access ... 172822.jsp

If you aren't into metallic, maybe a nice sheer argyle print or lace /fishnet tight? Even if they are black, it will not look like it was a color mistake.

These are really gorgeous:

those urban outfitters tights are great!

i agree with grey or silver! i think a really sheer black could be good, but it wont keep you warm. target has some nice tights right now.

I would go with black, but since you aren't wanting that I vote for gray.

Hmm...
I think navy looks great with black.
But you could also try other blue colors, red, or white.

Personally I love the maroon, but it's fun to see what the different colors look like and you can pick which you like best

i want to know more about the dress and where you're wearing it. if it's a simple dress, i would probably wear tights with a crazy pattern, like these:

http://www.joyofsocks.com/products/Blue ... ights.html

but you might think that's not appropriate in this case.

I am anti-black and navy-even black and dark denim. I am also anti brown boots with black tights-except for one time I thought it looked OK.

I second yellow mustard. Also a nice jacket to cover your arms, maybe?

i also agree with mustard! or red. something nice and contrasty.

i like well-cut corduroy jackets. also i feel like a shrug would not look dowdy but might be more comfortable and stay on your arms better than arm warmers, if you're looking for something to cover upper arms.

Do you have a picture of the dress? That might help with color suggestions...but otherwise, I say: mustard yellow, grey, dark red, and maaaaybeee brown. Have fun in England! It's pretty cold here in Europe, so maybe get some thicker tights?
