I LOVE the PDQ fast top coat from Butter London. Someone here mentioned it a few back and it's pretty frickin' awesome. I've tried the BL cuticle remover, not sure what it's supposed to do. Nothing happened.

I didn't even think of BL when I was thinking quick dry top coats, I want to avoid SV and was considering Poshe but wasn't sure if it was vegan and I doubt it's avail here. I am sure I can find the BL one here. And I think cuticle removers are used when you don't want to cut your cuticle, not sure I really need it, but thought I might try it, I have one stubborn one that I can't push back.

So what is a cuticle remover supposed to do exactly? Does it dissolve the cuticle? Make it soft and pushable? I have a stubborn cuticle too and tried the BL remover to see what would happen. Maybe I was impatient?

Are you referring to that one they call Horse somethingorother? I have that one and IMHO it's not a fertilizer. It's more like a very thin clear coat. I've used it, too. I thought it was ok, but nothing for serious repair.

I have a stubborn cuticle too and tried the BL remover to see what would happen. Maybe I was impatient? Cuticle remover doesn't dissolve cuticle, it lifts it. Cuticle is dead skin cells, shed from under the eponychium (the fold of skin that you push back - most people think this is cuticle but it's not). Cuticle remover softens it and then you can gently scrape it off the nail plate. The eponychium should be very gently pushed back, it's easier to do this after using cuticle remover but it can be done dry too, just be gentle. Regular use of cuticle oil will help.

Exciting, baps! It looks super cute.
Yesterday I did Zoya Petra with a couple different gold glitters sponged on the tips (I'm on a gold glitter kick, I guess). I really like it. Zoya Rekha on toes.

Baps - that looks fantastic! I want to get my nails done by you :D MMC - I've seen that polish, but I bought one of their non-breathable ones because they told me that it wasn't worth buying/using the breathable polish if I didn't also buy the breathable base & top coat. And this is Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black over 2 coats of Orly Liquid Vinyl - it's impossible to photograph

thanks guys, i'm really excited about it. bastah wrote: Awesome Baps! Are you going to be doing friends' nails or doing nails professionally or what? Professionally. I trained as a beauty therapist years ago and over the last couple of years I've been practicising and doing loads of extra training. I've set up my little studio to do nails, waxing and make up. At the moment it's just regular polish and gel polish but I want to train in enhancements (acrylic) as well eventually, once I have some time and money! :)

What are everyone's favourite blacks? I need a new plain black polish, I hate the one I currently have, it's Barry M (who I usually love) but it's really thick and gloopy. I used to have a stargazer black which I looooved, I remember it chipping really nicely so it was probably quite thin. I wonder if it's vegan/cruelty free?
Also, I really need a new topcoat. I use the one from Superdrug but it's not great. The bottle's tiny & the brush only reaches about halfway down the bottle so it feels super wasteful. I need something that'll go over any polish & not cause shrinking. It probably needs to be cheapish too, like under/around £8.

Stargazer don't test but I don't know if they're vegan. I like NYX's black polish (their Salon Formula polishes are vegan according to the list on here!)
I am going to pro beauty at the end of the month so unless you want it like now, I can get hold of NYX, Nubar, Orly (i think), China Glaze and Spa Rituals at the show and they're probably trade prices, so feel free to gimme a list! x

My favorite black ever (so far and out of many) is Wet & Wild's Black Creme. It's normally a one-coater and I get compliments on it. What's really awesome is that it retails for under $1. Hopefully, you can find it where you are. My very favorite top coat (out of MANY) is Cult Nails' Wicked Fast

Zoya Raven is pretty great too. It has a really, really subtle pearl.

And as for cheap top coats, have you tried Barry M base/top coat? I bought it for my mum, so I haven't used it myself. The only two I use are Zoya (you might find it online for cheap) and now Butter London (which is not cheap). Thanks for the rec Snarky, yesterday I purchased the BL top coat as part of a pack, the hfs lady talked me into it. And she was nice enough to swap the base coat out and replace it with the cuticle remover. Then I got to choose a colour, so I went with Bossy Boots, which I like more now that I have swatched it. And this is a book mani that doesn't quite match the cover because I based it more on the MC. The base pink on the pinkie and the dots on the ring finger is Bloom Grace, the pink glitter under the dots is Bloom Lucille and the lighter pink glitter on the pinkie is O.P.I Teenage Dream. The base blue is Nail It! Belle Vista, the blue glitter is O.P.I Last Friday Night. I stamped the ribbon using KIP M56 and added diamontes to a few nails.

Bossy Boots is on my list to add when I go on another spree. I love the color!
