Exhale, though not explicitly vegan and kind of pricey, uses a lot of Spa Ritual products. I haven't been there since going vegan and have never asked though.

Thanks! I haven't had a pedicure here at all. I saw there were a couple of salons that offer vegan pedicures but they are more outside the city and would be hard to get to. So i decided just to order Acquarella in Incognito:

http://www.amazon.com/Acquarella-Nail-P ... B002Y1U2RE

I have a few other Acquarella polishes and I like them, I am used to the application which can be a bit tricky but I find they work really well for toenails in particular, since if you let it dry well overnight any excess mistakes on the skin comes off in the shower and the polish itself stays well on the nail.

I didn't know Acquarella was a vegan brand - I saw one of these for $1.99 yesterday! Wish I'd bought it!

I had trouble applying my new Dior polish, it was gloomy and drying out by the time of the second coat. I'm not sure if it was caused by the hot weather or something else as its only the second time I've used Dior (the first time was with a full size bottle, big brush).

Is there ever any point using two coats of top coat? Would it make the mani last longer?

That doesn't sound right. From what I've seen those two polishes have had good reviews for nice formula.

I would think two coats of top coat would cause faster chipper just because of all the layers.

(I meant it was gloopy, not autocorrected gloomy!)

It went on very nicely at first - I should clarify that I did two coats on one hand, both went on fine, but both coats on the second hand were a struggle. I shook it first so I'm guessing it was the warm temperature causing the bottle contents to dry out while open, as I applied the polish. It was warm but not super warm though.

Don't shake your polish! That will make it more likely to get bubbles. The best way to mix is to roll it around in your hand gently.

Did you close the lid on the bottle between coats? Were the coats too thick?

The Dior polishes I have are relatively fast drying.

I closed it between coats and tried to apply the same thickness - the gloopiness made it go on a bit thicker rather than the thickness making it gloopy.

Thanks for the tip about not shaking it!

Wearing Orly High on Hope and it's so pretty!

I keep thinking about painting my toenails because it's summer soon and I want pretty feet, but my toenails are so freaky tiny, like they have super short nail beds, the nails are only like half a centimeter long so it's just awkward to paint them.

I ordered from Zoya as my end of the semester present to myself. I got Josie (green, from one of the summer collections), Harley (I already have 4 grays from Zoya, but what's one more?), and the color lock system. Hoping CLS plays nice with Butter polishes. I need a cheaper topcoat like nobody's business!

Currently wearing BL's Brummie.

It's amazing how different those Zoya colours look in all the photos - some of the Josie ones make me want one but others put me right off!

This is good news! I'd really like to get 2oz of topcoat for $20 (and not 0.6oz for the same amount)

True! I think it's going to be on the grass-green side of the spectrum and not too minty. (Geez, I really sound like a polish addict...)

Finally had time to do my nails. Lightening lime gelicure with some glitter, diamantes and acrylic paint for the animal print. Took forever but I love them.

I did Chanel June for today. It's a pretty creamsie peachy apricot. Not my most flattering color but I love it.

Nails are going commando until a major client approves a direction for their ad campaign. THEN, I'm rewarding myself with a mani/pedi. Just need to decide whether to go no chip or regular. And if they don't approve the comps, well...tequila instead.

Fisticuffs - I love that whole CG collection, esp. that colour!

Baps - your nails remind me of kiwi fruit!

Also, hi! I am loving being here in the USA and I went and got my nails done because we don't get salons that do nail art at home. I asked the nail artist to do a book mani for me and it was fun to see what she came up with

How would you have done it yourself Kitteh?

I'm wearing Wet n Wild megalast Undercover 206C. It's my only polish from this brand. I like the colour but it doesn't look as good as the more expensive polishes I've used recently. Do cheaper polishes tend to need a third coat? And I wasn't impressed with the 'ManiCurve pro brush', just seemed like a cheap version of the Dior brush.

i posted in the "vegan nail polish brands" thread but thought this might be useful here, too:

cvs is having their semi-annual beauty sale, and most orly polishes and treatments are 50% off. they may not have a sign posted stating "50% off" but if you take the polish up to the red scanner coupon box and scan the bar code, it should show up for 50% off. here's a link to the blog where i learned about the sale: http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com/2013/0 ... -sale.html

i picked up the orly polish in "snowcone" for $4.15.

I think it depends on the shade, I'm wearing Wet Cement from that same line right now and had total opacity with two coats, and it's nice, smooth, even, bubble free, and shiny. But overall the more expensive brands will cover better in fewer coats, like some of the Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes I have are perfect in one coat. I don't mind the megalast brush, the only brush I've ever really disliked is the OPI prowide brush.

Number of coats just depends on the formula of the specific color. lighter colors are more likely to need three coats, but I make coats as thin as possible anyway.

I think that the only real difference between the high end brands and an inexpensive brand with a decent formula is pigment quality. Depth of color and stability are two big things. I have a couple Zoyas and they stain like mad (the dark blue purple especially). Chanel and Dior don't stain (for the price, they really better not!) but most nail polish is just nail polish is just nail polish. It's all chemical soup anyway regardless of how much the bottle cost, at least once you reach the decent quality of a reliable 5 free brand. I'm a color snob though and I really hate flat colors with no depth, especially for the more oddball colors like blue, green, yellow, etc.

I'm wearing Coco Blue right now. I put it on Monday night, and might still leave it on for tomorrow. It's a pretty sky blue with a little shimmer hidden in the formula.
