So I had this idea to maybe have a giveaway week during MoFo. So I emailed a few companies, and then a few more, assuming everyone would ignore me, so overcompensating. The companies mostly responded enthusiastically, super enthusiastically. It snowballed. So many vegan and vegan-friendly companies are super generous--some way more so than I asked for. I am almost overwhelmed! I am pretty sure I have enough free product coupons and will have cookbooks and products that I can do not only a food post but also a giveaway every day of the month. I am writing to tell you, not so you follow me, but so you check my blog and comment so you can win stuff. Yay! It's http://misoforbreakfast.blogspot.com/ if you are interested, or have a look at the listing on the VeganMoFo site. Are you hosting giveaways? Do you like giveaways? Do you think this is too materialistic and that I should restrict to a giveaway-heavy week instead of the whole month? Would you like to post your opinion about any of this? Post!

I love giveaways. I didn't think companies would really just give you stuff like that. A giveaway a day would be really amazing. I say go for it.

QueenV wrote: I love giveaways, as long as they're not too structured. The ones where you have to do this, and do this, and then blog and FB and twitter it is too much for me. I like simple. They will mostly be without any strings. However, one company (one of my favorite giveaways) will, I think, be giving the option of fanning on FB and/or joining an email list for an extra chance to win. This is company-requested, so since they are nice enough to donate, I am going along with it! In terms of mailing things out, I am thinking that I can just ask everyone to be patient and I'll try to do one mailing per week unless someone is just too excited and really really needs the item/coupon ASAP!

Giveaways are always fun! I've never done one before and had no idea it was as easy as asking companies for donations! Super cool!

That's great that they were all so generous. I love getting things I haven't earned, so I'll be keeping an eye out.

That's so awesome!
I'm planning to have a contest on my blog... I'll post details on day 1, but it's going to be a gay cake decorating contest running until a week before the end of the month, then the last week I will post all the entries and people can vote on their favorite. The prize as of now will be an awesome rainbow bag that I'm making, but I would love to add something else... maybe fill the bag with awesome vegan stuff!
Did the MoFo headquarters keep track of all the giveaways that occurred during MoFo last year? I think someone did.

That's so kind of you, celyn, and everyone else, to have giveaways.
I, like Erinnerung, would love to get something I haven't earned, but I never end up getting anything anyway, usually because I forget to enter or tune in, or whatever, but it's still so nice that you took the initiative to ask for stuff to give away!!

celyn - Did you send a form letter to the companies to ask for stuff to give away? If so, can you post it? I wouldn't know how to ask for free shiitake.

I will definitely be checking your blog out for the giveaways!
My cookbook giveaway ends on the first day of VeganMofo to kick it off. I hate to do two give aways back to back but we'll see.

Somehow it feels dirty to me when there are 30 other ways you can get your name in the draw. anyhow, I don't want to hijack. I am just a blogging puritan! Celyn, such a great idea and I will totally be entering your giveaways! I love giveaways! also, they are really fun to do because it makes people so happy.

as usual, i agree with amey. also, i wanted to agree that getting free product is really easy! last year i got so excited about discovering primal strips come in to xgfx flavors, that i wrote the co., and they sent me enough strips to give one away everyday for the whole month.

If it's free product coupons, it'll be wherever the coupons are good for. If the company is sending them out, I think it will have to be just the US, because I didn't think of this when I asked and they are already being so generous, you know? rachell37 wrote: celyn - Did you send a form letter to the companies to ask for stuff to give away? If so, can you post it? I wouldn't know how to ask for free shiitake. Not exactly a form letter. I picked out companies I like and emailed media/contact forms. I told them about Vegan MoFo, I told them how many people had signed up to participate, and said I was participating. I said that I'd really like to include them because I liked their products, and sometimes I said it could be very win-win: free items for winners, good PR because the blogs are widely read, and that in my experience vegans go out of their way to support generous vegan and vegan friendly companies. As I got better at writing them, I also stressed that if they preferred to do PR a different way, I totally understood and still supported them. A number of companies didn't respond, but a bunch were super generous. I was looking for one or two items, little things, and sometimes I got this and that was really awesome, but sometimes I got offers for way more! ameyfm wrote: actually, this is something I have been meaning to start a thread about for a long time. Again, one company (and they are a fantastic and all the time super, super generous company)specifically asked for this type of thing. Otherwise, no, I won't be doing the giveaways that way. If most of you feel that way, I can go back to the company. Maybe I will anyway. They are super nice and I have fanned them on FB just because they are so cool. So they might be nice about this too. Anyway, I think it's going to be super-fun and I hope you all win! If anybody can explain random number generators to me, I need a link to a free one because I don't understand them yet!
