So, I am going to NYC in July and meeting up with a group of friends for a birthday celebration (for me) and was wondering if anyone might have a good restaurant recommendation. I am the only vegan in the group so the restaurant can either be vegan but have food that non-vegans will like or not be exclusively vegan but have something I can eat.
Thanks so much!

No particular neighborhood but would like to stay in Manhattan. It can be somewhat expensive - maybe $$$ out of $$$$. I want it to be a special occasion :).

I usually go to either Blossom or Candle 79 with my parents and sister for my birthday. They're all omnis, and they've usually liked the food that they ordered.

Kajitsu is expensive but really good & interesting, and I don't think it would weird any omnis out (it also has michelin stars if that matters to anyone in your group). You should make reservations far in advance though.
I've also had a lot of success taking omnis to gobo, which I find weird since it seems so beige and fake-meat heavy to me, but that might be a good, slightly more moderately priced option.
Blossom and Candle are both good recs too. Dirt Candy might also work if your group isn't huge.
If you get pressured into an omni restaurant, I've had good luck at five points (call ahead to get a vegan entree, they usually have already vegan or easily veganizable starters), adour (mega expensive, but they made me some excellent vegan food - including a fancy dessert), craft (you'll almost certainly get risotto for your main, they have lots of vegan or veganizable sides), and blue hill. You should call ahead for all of these.

My favorites are Pure Food and Wine (quite expensive, but fabulous), Vatan And Blossom (both really great)
My omni parents (who seem to forget after every time that vegan food can be "filling") love all of these places.

Dovetail. Michelin starred and makes a point of doing amazing vegan accommodations. Danny Meyer's restaurants, Public and Craft also fantastic for vegans.

Oh and seconding Blue Hill. I was just there on the 23rd. There's a great farro and quinoa primavera on the menu and several vegan first courses.
