Help me out native New Yorkers...what are the can't miss places? I'm only in for a couple nights and in the financial district but will travel all over to visit friends across Manhattan. So obviously if the places are towards the southern half that would be better but I am not opposed to going anywhere if its a truly "can't miss" vegan experience.
Need places for breakfast, lunch and dinner....huge bonus would be a super cool bar to hang out at all night that was vegan.
I don't require places to be completely vegan, vegan friendly is cool by me.
Suggestions?

if you're traveling around there is the Loving Hut just a block or two from Penn Station. Their hours are odd (open for breakfast and then until maybe 10 or 11, i was surprised)-- good for when you have a cheese steak craving.....
Lulas, sure, but that lovely vegan vietnamese place i went to with Friday and Tofulish-- that place was the shizzle!!! i don't remember the name but someone will.
When i was there last time i was really astonished at how available vegan alternatives were. I was there for work, lots of working lunches, breakfasts, etc, and was able to get what i needed in almost every place- in only one place, breakfast down in the village, i got soymilk for my coffee but they had no margarine (?) but the waitress came out with some special hidden-for-special-occasions apricot coulis to make up for my sad toast.
Oh, and in Chelsea Market there is a raw food place that has been highly touted (lucky duck, maybe?) that has lovely, beautiful raw desserts, but the prices were insane.

Bars: Pine Box Rock Shop is definitely 100% vegan. I'm pretty sure Lucky 13 is too; it's owned by the same people who own Foodswings.

That's Lan Cafe (on 6th Street near 1st Ave in the East Village), it is awesome and you should go. Conveniently, it's right down the street from Lulas so you can get ice cream for dessert. If you can splash out on a fancy dinner, I'd recommend trying Kajitsu, you need a reservation though.

Thanks for all these great suggestions....sounds like Brooklyn is the place to be!
Anyone ever been to John's of 12th? Heard they have an awesome vegan menu (even vegan canollis!). Also, looking at Kate's Joint as a dinner/drinks hangout...anyone have any feedback on that place?

Don't get the canolli at John's. They supposedly suck. The canolli at candle 79 however is amazing.

It's awesome that John's of 12th has a vegan menu, but it's really not a very good restaurant. I sort of enjoyed it for the reliving my childhood trips to the fancy italian restaurant when we were down the shore, but there are a lot of much better vegan options out there. The cannoli is ok, the shell is acceptable but not really a cannoli, the filling is grainy and a little weird. I suspect it's some variation of tofu blended with maple syrup.
