I can find everything I need in the health food store near me, and the big supermarket, but I'd prefer to spend my hard-earned bucks at a strictly vegan shop if I can. (Or I can shop online, which would be fine, but I'd also like to stay local if I can.)

as far as I know there are no strictly vegan grocery stores in NYC. I have to go to like 5 different stores to get everything I need!

There's a pretty good almost all veg one in Williamsburg but they can be very pricey and had alot of bad produce the first time i went in. I don't think there's any one strictly veg one though.

Just a quick plug for the 4th Street Food Coop in Manhattan, which isn't vegan but is totally vegetarian (by member vote). Ethics are in the right place, no big foot multinational corporate brands.

I walk by the 4th Street food coop often, but I thought it was mostly produce, which is great, but I get that stuff from my CSA during the season, and from this local (I live in Staten Island) produce stand that only sells fruit and veggies for the rest of the year. (But I love knowing that the 4th Street coop is doing the mostly-right thing, I'll spread that message around, and def shop there when I'm passing through.)

I got to like 5 different stores to get everything I need too, but I'm starting to think about shopping online with a vegan place, like Food Fight, even though they're a million miles away. I might prefer giving my cash to a delivery service and a good food shop that is doing the right thing, rather than giving it begrudgingly to a shop here that is selling factory farmed animals and such just a few aisles over.

I'll keep researching and come back with an update.

we're pretty good with bulk and we have liquid bulk like soaps, oils, tamari, etc.

Like IJDI said, there are no 100% vegan grocers that I've heard of, at least yet.

My ex roommate and I were going to open a vegan grocery store in Brooklyn called Greekorean Vegan (I'm greek, she's Korean, you get it... you're smart), but then she became a crackhead and I hate her now so FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....

We were also too broke to do anything, hence seriously considering the whimsical lifestyle of the high-class NYC escort. We didn't follow through with that one either, but we did have our names picked out and everything.

I have a real job now...

that would be a great name for a grocery store. imagine, vegan kim chi and alphonso olives all in one place!

I heard from a friend last night that this store/cafe in Jersey City is all vegan. Seems like their website is gone now though.

I checked out their website and couldn't tell for sure, but then read their message board and searched "vegan," and saw that it's not. They have argued about it in their meetings, it seems, but the vegan idea didn't win.

Thanks for the tip though, I'm still on the lookout!

I've eaten at Subias a couple times, I can confirm it's definitely not all vegan. That being said, they do have lots of vegan groceries for sale, as well as a cafe (which might be all vegan? can't remember for sure, it's been about half a year).
