New vegetarian burger place in the East Village. Anyone heard of or been?

Here's an interview with the chef/owner:

its delicious, i love it. my boyfriend (omni) liked it but thought it was salty. i didn't, and ive eaten at the restaurant and the pop ups a few times. the menu changes which is also nice, and the sides are really great too. and i cant help but add that on a side note i am a fan of most bands brooks headley has been in.

Heard of, haven't been yet. I need to combine that with a trip to Blythe Ann's.

Excellent idea! Husband said maybe I hadn't heard of it because I'm never in that area. And I was like, 'excuuuuse me, that's where Lula's is!' (hard habit to break. Blythe Ann's! Blythe Ann's!)

hmm I wonder if the buns are vegan? The interview mentions "squishy Martin's potato rolls" and I could've sworn those - and pretty much every brand of potato roll I've seen at a supermarket - have eggs in them. Still definitely wanna check out a burger though. (also yesssss BORN AGAINST...even if he wasn't in the original lineup!)

so most things they say can be made vegan. i asked for the vegan superiority burger and that was no problem but its true you do need to specify. the crunchy tofu sunflower wrap thing which i get without the wrap as a boat (SO GOOD!!!!) is all vegan and i think the sloppy joe thing too... the sides mostly are..

the other night i got to try a vegan sour cream gelato. it was fantastic. there is usually at least 1 vegan dessert option that is super good... although its been pointed out that its neary blythes (and around the corner for sustsainable nyc).

^ So does that mean the rolls are vegan, or they have vegan rolls?

I want sour cream gelato!

They have different vegan rolls (haven't been, so can't comment on how they are, but have read that in reviews).

Yes i think they use 2 different rolls for vegan / not vegan - but i've never been with someone else to compare them. I think the original is on a potato roll, and the vegan is not - but I couldn't tell you what kind, if you told me it was also a potato roll i'd believe you (which may speak to my limited knowledge of rolls or how quickly i devoured it). I usually get that sunflower-y thing and paid more attention to the sides which are worth a mention.

pS Randi let me know if you're ever in town and want to go. I've seen your name on here and on the philly board and i think you have good taste in food (the highest compliment of all, right?!)

we rode up from philly and hit it Saturday night. well worth going into manhattan for.

the burger was pretty good but not the best thing ever
the Philly Yuba, think cheesteak using tofu skins was amazing. id say same lavel as the Vedge mushroom cheesteak
the sour cream gelato + sorbetto was very very good as well.

NYTimes Critics Pick!!! What an overall great review (don't read the comments UGH). I can't wait to go (archers, I'll be in NYC at the end of the month!). One thing, it seemed in the review like the sorbets were vegan and fruit based but the gelato is dairy-based. Is that true?

hmm, they gave us something that was gelato and told us it was vegan. it sounded like there could be 2 different gelatos from what my buddy said who ordered the dessert.

the sorbet is usually (always?) vegan and sometimes the gelato is. not always, but sometimes. i trust that they arent selling it as vegan if it isnt. its a limited menu and im sure their counter people are well versed as to what is/isnt.

For anyone who liked it as much as I did, the recipe for their charred broccoli salad is in this month's Bon Appetit:

I haven't tried making it at home yet, but I'm excited to try!

I went tonight! Had the yuba philly, the burned broccoli salad, and the banana sour cream gelato (which came with vegan banana bread crumbles sprinkled on top). It was all delicious.

There's a fried tofu sandwich on their instagram that looks amazing but they didn't have that tonight. I'll save it for next time..

We had a drive-by visit to NYC this week and managed to run to Superiority Burger in thick of the snowstorm Monday night. Got everything offered but the wrap. WAS AMAZING. Just got a James Beard nom for best new restaurant, nationwide!!!!

I have to go there. I keep forgetting about it every time I'm downtown.

According to their Instagram, they'll now be open from 11:30am to 10 pm every day but Tuesday!

I'm going tonight! I accidentally ate some Ben and Jerry's but I'll give it my best shot.

We went there this week and I really liked it! I thought the burger patty itself was too salty, like bitingly so, but everything else was bomb. The burnt broccoli salad and the roasted beets were amazing.

I had the burger and crunchy potatoes. I think I like Bareburger's quinoa burger better but the potatoes were excellent. I wish I'd gotten more, I'm still hungry.

Oh, that was the other thing -- the size of the burgers! I wish I had known beforehand and ordered two they were so tiny. But by the time I got my burger there was a lineup out the door and I wasn't getting in line again.

Yes, very small! I'm about to go back out for more food. Maybe pizza at the new pizza place?

If you're still in the east village you could do what I did and just go to Van Leeuwen's after for an ice cream sundae, haha. I am an adult.
