I'm going to be in NYC for five days for business. I haven't really been the city in several years, so I'm not up on what's still open and what's good. I'll be staying right near Grand Central Station, but I'll have time in the evening to venture out for some awesome food. Fill me in!

You'll be staying right near my office! Not a great spot for vegan food, but for quick meals I sometimes run to Beyond Sushi on 57th or Blossom du Jour across town. If you're into smoothies and juice, Juice Generation is my fav and there's one on 42nd. Also, Urban Space on 45th Street has a TON of vegan options from multiple vendors, but you need to ask questions to know what's what. Some places Mark vegan options, others don't. Mimi's Hummus there is AMAZING. Oh, and there's a Terri opening soon on 3rd Ave!

For the evenings, when you have more time, I really love Pala for upscale pizza. It's not specifically vegan, but there are a ton of options. You've got to try Blossom, and I'm a big fan of Hangawi, too. Champs is so wonderful that I have lost weight since I moved away from it. By Chloe is supposed to be great, but every time I peek in it looks like a rugby scrum, so I haven't bothered. I also love V-Spot (I'm biased by convenience, though), and if you make it out to BK, you can stop by Cocoa Bar for dessert! I have also been meaning to try Superioty Burger and Toad Style for the LONGEST time.

The Cinnamon Snail at Pennsy which is a food court adjacent to Penn Station. Dunwell Donuts if you like donuts, it's right around the corner from Champs. I've been to By Chloe a few times around five and there hasn't been a huge line.

OK, so I don't live in NYC, but I just visited a week ago for work. Of course all meals were paid for by my company, but if you can wing it, Avant Garden (East Village) is definitely da bomb dot com. Smaller, pretty-looking, expensive-type plates with no faux meat things. I found it much better and more creative than Blossom IMO because honestly, I don't want Daiya to be labeled as "tapioca cheese" or whatever they called it on a menu that's charging me $25 for a main course. We all know Daiya tastes like feet. (Sorry, feet-lovers.)

Anything in the clay pot at Hangawi is A+++.

By Chloe is really good. Burgers and fries done really nicely, and a ton of baked goodies for dessert. It was pretty busy each time I went, so if you're lucky and are able to find a seat inside, you'll leave smelling like their kitchen grease.

+1 for Pala. It was nice for pizza and has a whole vegan menu (just flip the menu over). Plus, they have vegan cannoli!
However, if you want to try pizza I just heard that a vegan pizza place just opened called 00 + co in East Village. I'm mad that they opened just a few days after I left NYC, but the pictures look really good.

+1 for the Cinnamon Snail at the Pennsy! I think I ate one of each of their baked pastry things plus a humungo sandwich, it was all so good.

I know I ragged on Blossom earlier, but Blossom du Jour is actually really yummy. I loved their wraps, bowls, smoothies, and milkshakes.

These ones are a little more out of the way, but still worth it:
Champs in Brooklyn is also A+++! Huge breakfast plate thingie for dinner with an ice cream float in the middle of winter is the best thing ever. I also noticed they had croissants, so I bought all the ones they had out so I could save them for breakfast back in Manhattan.

In Harlem, Seasoned Vegan (soul food spot!!) is pretty freakin' tasty!! Because mac & cheese.

If you go to the new vegan pizza place beware, they use honey and you have to ask about it.

Ah, thanks for that! I have to go back to NYC in a month, so if I have time to go to 00+co, I'll keep that in mind. Such an annoying thing, though. They should at least label what has honey! (Or how about don't use any, if your establishment is supposed to be vegan?)

It says it in tiny tiny print on what I think was the menu (I saw it online) so at least they give some warning? But I agree, if you're supposed to be vegan actually be vegan.

I can't vouch myself but Randi JM has been- Superiority Burger is supposed to be really good.

I didn't know Blockheads was so vegan friendly! There's one pretty close by me. I need a roasted butternut squash burrito.

I was pretty happy with the wrap I got from the 2nd ave location. It was tasty and very filling. If Terri's wasn't so close to my office, I would probably go to Blockheads more.

Speaking of bagels Ess A Bagel on third Avenue and I'm not sure what street has a good selection of vegan cream cheese and excellent bagels. There's usually a line but it's worth it. *craves garlic bagel with olive cream cheese*

Ess-a-bagel is my favorite! But all the bagel shops have tofu, it's amazing.

And yeah Superiority Burger was INSANE. It got a James Beard new restaurant nomination, which is crazy for a tiny shack of a place that isn't stupid expensive and fancy, so that shows how amazing it is. My omni husband was blown away.

Does that mean they removed honey from the menu, or stopped caring that vegans don't eat honey...guessing/hoping the former?

Ummm I just found out Lagusta's Luscious is opening a storefront next to Superiority Burger!!!!
