Was there last night for my last fix of vanilla ginger bourbon. I suggest even going today if you can, she might not have much left by Sunday!

They're blaming losses from the storm, but I'm guessing it was more because the ice cream wasn't very good and people weren't very nice.

That sucks, I was gonna go there on my next NYC trip! Lula's damn well better not go ANWHERE or I will seriously cry.

http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/2012112 ... lage-closeCombination of rent and Sandy put the nail in. They were planning to move for cheaper rent but ran out of time. There is good reason to worry about other downtown Manhattan businesses that lost so much revenue and inventory, but I haven't heard anything specific about Lula's.

Lula's is doing fine. They lost some ice cream while without power for almost a week, but that's it. They're down to a four day week for the winter, but I believe that was announced pre-Sandy.

I've always thought Lula's was better. But my heart will always belong to Scoops in LA. Still, it's sad to lose another vegan business.

I always thought Stogo was a bit disappointing, I went when I was in the area but would never go out of my way to go there. Still, it's sad to hear another business has disappeared.

I think they cut back their hours for the winter, but I haven't heard anything about them actually closing. That would make me the saddest panda to ever panda. Will ask around. ETA: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Maybe they should think about modernizing, that place looks like it hasn't been updated since 1890!

Yeah, I was talking to someone who knows the owners and basically gave me the wife's story. Her ex is half owner, doesn't want to do any of the actual work, and still wants profits.
I'll be pretty upset if it closes.

This article was on the NY Post today. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manh ... 8339aqFYrJI hope they don't close. It's the best ice cream shop ever! It would be really sad if they close.

Does/did Derrick Hackett ever work there? I've seen regular faces working there, but maybe they were just employees. I hope they work out an agreement that doesn't involve the nuclear option. It would be really shitty to go from zero to two and back to zero vegan ice cream shops around here. ETA: http://evgrieve.com/2013/01/report-divo ... re-of.html(read the comments)

Derrick worked the counter early on, but he wasn't much of a people person, so his role became mostly making the ice cream. Brad's insight on this is interesting, but I'd like to smack the person who only thinks "she" shouldn't air her dirty laundry.
