Hey PPK, I'm going to have some time off in early January and I've been wanting to visit NYC forever. From a money/time standpoint this seems like my best chance to do it, and most of the things I want to do are indoors (museums, shows, restaurants) so the weather isn't a huge concern.

The two things I am worried about are 1) is bad weather likely to cause me problems for getting around the city, and 2) are there things that close or slow down in the post-holiday season that I should know about?

Aside from that, any general suggestions are welcome. So, what say you all? Good idea/bad idea/other pitfalls I haven't even thought of yet?

weather is so unpredictable! sometimes there's snow everywhere in january, and sometimes it's, like, 70 degrees. but it terms of sightseeing availability, i can't think of any big changes that would make a visit a bad idea.

Yeah, the weather is very unpredictable but it's rare that public transportation is shut down, except by things like hurricanes, especially in Manhattan, if that's mainly where you plan to be. Museums and tourist attractions are open year round

Thanks guys! It's looking like this trip is probably a go. I'm excited! Off to read every other thread in this forum and make a list of the restaurants I want to go to...

Another reason why it's a good time to visit is post-holiday sales.

If you're here on the second Saturday of the month, the vegan shop-up will probably be happening
