i really don't understand what your friend means. does he want realistic fake meat, or something that's not too health-foody, or what?
I’d probably have to ask to be 100% sure, but it’s probably a combination of those things – I don’t like food that’s too “natural” tasting either. He thinks vegan food may not be too flavorful. He told me once went to a vegetarian Chinese restaurant in New Jersey that had mock meat dishes that he liked. So maybe the places in Chinatown would work in that case, but there are rumors that they lie about the food. He said ultimately he’d like to have some vegetarian meatloaf and potatoes, but I can’t think of any place still open in the City that has that (I don’t know if he’d be up for traveling to Brooklyn or Queens yet). My first thoughts were of Pukk with their mock duck, or maybe Peacefood Café with the PFC Unchicken Basket (although I think they only have that for dinner – if we meet for lunch, I don’t know what else there is there). But for the most “realistic” vegan mock meat dishes, what would you recommend?
