My day has been pretty nice - sleep-in, day off uni and work work, buying really delicious bread from some friends who have started an organic sourdough bakery, buying other nice foodstuffs (purple carrots!), buying some crafty stuff, making a playlist and finishing some crafting for my housemate's birthday, etc etc.
The best thing, however, has been visiting my partner's place. Although my partner is overseas right now, their lovely housemates asked me to come hang out for dinner and a movie. Since I've lived here before (during a period of houselessness over the summer), it feels really comfy to just hang out in the loungeroom and have a laptop party and enjoy the companionable atmosphere. Also, there is a cat living here now, and he came and sat on my lap for a while. I miss having cats around.

My first day off in 2 weeks? What would be even better is if I got paid for at least some of the nearly 70 hours of overtime I've worked in the past 2 weeks. My boss told me he was 'working it' but I think I'll be lucky if they pay me 10 hours of overtime. The life of a salaried employee.

Today I went to the jubilee fair and bought some beans and some herbs grown by a women's refuge and saw some falconry and did some weeding and sorted out the compost and baked some bread and repotted the physalis into bigger pots and bought some more slug pellets and a new muslin square for milk and cheese making and put some alpine strawberries and bush tomatoes and a climber and what is either a courgette or a cucumber into a hanging basket to hang by our door.

There was the most adorable mantis waiting for me when I went to collect the bookdrop today. S/he was maybe 1/2 the size of my pinky. When I got back inside I made everyone else go look too. I ♥ Mantes.
p.s. Happy Birthday Vijita!

We went yardsaling and got a bunch of stuff we were looking for (over a dozen good planters in various sizes, a shirt that is nice enough to wear to an interview next week) and some things we weren't (a red party dress for me, a super cute child's umbrella, fairy wings & wand and a big purple truck for the Emperor, two sunflowers and a big African marigold) for about $10 total. I am easily excited!

A couple things! And I think the best is still to come. First, breakfast at Dovetail bakery and saying hi to the adorable Morgan Grundstein, then I told my work to cut my hours down to 3 days a week and it went swimmingly, I had thought before it wasnt doable, that it'd have to be full-time or a totally different position altogether. Next best thing will be going my friends birthday party! Woot.

A CHOICE of vegan cake at the cafe we had afternoon tea at yesterday. There were 5 cakes, four of which were vegan (and the one which wasn't vegan was gluten free).

My local vegan friend told me she can't come to the Amsterdam meetup on Wednesday .... because she's pregnant! (And exhausted and nauseous, but pregnant!) HOORAY there will soon be more cute vegan kids in the world!

I've been feeling really crappy since my grandad died on Thursday, and not able to do anything - found it hard to get out of bed. But today I did loads of work on the assignment that I've been seriously neglecting, then went to the gym and had a really great workout, so felt I'd really earned my cheesey tatty cakes.

Jubilee street party!! I'm not a royalist by any stretch but it was so fun to get to know my neighbours and drink Pimms and the couple next door are vegan and they made an amazing pumpkin spice cake.
Edit: I can't believe I forgot to mention that someone had a pug! They let me pet him!!

I walked out of my organic chemistry exam last week positive I'd bombed it. Get it back today and what is that? An A-! I'm not even sure how that happened!

I don't give a cork about the royals but this was the best long weekend evarrrr. Awesome birthday on saturday - barbecue, dancing and cake with drunk vomiting barbie. Sunday roast and Brighton / friend awesomeness. Yesterday my parents made me tofu scramble and champagne for brekkie and then later we went to cinema and for dinner.
And now I have the rest of the week off and am doing waxing training. I love this week.

There's an awesome interview in the newest issue of Lifelines (Toronto Vegetarian Association/TVA's quarterly publication) with Isa and Terry that came in the mail today. And they're both gonna be at Veg Fest in September - woot!!!!
