I really love having candles in the house, as does my boyfriend. I really hate the idea of using Paraffin wax though! So I try to always buy soy, but unfortunately the more handy little tea light ones are hard to find in pure soy wax, and they are also so expensive! Also tapered candles! I do miss those! I very often eyeball the beeswax products with lust but don't buy them due to, well, you get it...

I haven't purchased a besswax candle ever. But I remember loving one that a friend of mine had when we were younger. Cause it was a honeycomb candle and it just looked really cool.

No candles for me! My dad ingrained in me at a very young age a fear of burning down the house, and knowing me it's for the best that it stuck.

Bayberry candles are available in tapers. We have some we use at Christmas. I think they're a bit more expensive, though.
I really like scented candles, but I'm kind of afraid of them now. The other day, when my room was smelling like wet dog (thanks, Sable), I grabbed one of my mom's Yankee Candles. I had it lit for about 2 hours. Later, when I was brushing my teeth, I noticed my nostrils looked really black. I actually thought "Holy shiitake! Did I suddenly sprout a bunch of nose hair or something?!" But I got a tissue, and it was soot. Soot all in my nose! That freaked me out. I don't really want to be breathing in horrible chemicals. I think soy is supposed to burn cleaner, so maybe I'll stick to those from now on.

Hunh, I never knew there was anything wrong with paraffin wax and thought soy candles were a weird hippy thing (even though I'm kind of a weird hippy).

Rapeseed* (which I think Americans call canola) oil candles are nice and it's grown in the UK so I don't have to worry about ethical issues like paraffin wax actually being made out of children's tears and tiger snot. Actually, I was given a massive amount of candles last year that we're still churning through. * Has nothing to do with that kind of rape; it's from a different Latin word. Paraffin is made from petroleum, so there's the whole oil drilling sadness issue, but one of the main issues people have with it is actually that it burns off all these chemicals, and, yeah, like monkeytoes noticed, soot.

Obviously the way to go is those Jesus and Virgin Mary candles from the Mexican market. Nothing is more romantic than the soft flicker of candles and Jesus staring down at you. Judging you.

Judging you. OMG! My husband just brought one of these home last week after a trip to Walmart. And then he had the nerve to tell me I couldn't burn it. So I now have a Virgin Mary candle sitting on my entertainment center just for fun.

Yeah, burning things is sacrilegious, they just put the wax and wick to tempt you.

I use soy candles. I usually find cheap ones at department stores. Love browsing soy candles on etsy but I really like to smell a candle before I buy it so I've never ordered one before.

No candles for me... my cat sticks his face in them and burns off his whiskers/eyebrows. After the 3rd time, I gave up.
