And YAY Kimba!!!

And Happy Birthday Kimba and Mitten.

I hiked for an hour and a half today. My knees aren't even hurting. I win.

Interim presentation today about my summer research project. My presentation basically boiled down to "this is what I tried to do, but none of it worked and my data are crepe. Frig." so I was expecting to get torn apart. Instead, I got loads of useful suggestions and ideas of things to try.

Took me 20 minutes to bike to work this morning. That's half the length of my bus commute and about the time it would take me to drive.

Today I had the best encounter in a long, long time, and it was just what I needed, too.
I have this amazing unique handmade bag that I love. It has Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula (in Nosferatu) on the front, and it's from a shop that's run by an organisation that provides jobs for people with psychosocial disorders and helps them with reintegration.
Anyway, I'm walking home with my bag when someone taps me on the shoulder. I take off my headphones, and there's a very handsome young man beaming at me. He tells me, "I'm so glad I saw your bag, because I MADE IT!" And then he proceeded to tell me the bag's history, and how he deliberately took pieces of flawed vinyl tarps and sewed them together to make the background look more rugged (which I love about that bag). We were both so happy to have met, and he was so happy that I like his work, and I was so happy to see him so happy, and, well, it made my whole week.

I accidentally invented a nifty chocolate mousse recipe!

Phoenix that is a great story, that's the kind of reason why I love handmade stuff!

Phoenix, that is super awesome! I'm trying to think of a best thing about my day.. So far, it's the cilantro/black bean/orange/sweet potato soup thing from AFR. So freaking good and I can't believe it took me this long to make. Yeesh. I wish I had a better thing, but no such luck.

I haven't listened to folk music in foreverrrrrr, and I haven't done folk dance in months! Tonight I finally get an hour's break in my crazy schedule so I'm rocking out to English tunes and writing Irish set and (gasp!) a few Morris dances in my head.

The other great thing about today was lunch with 5 of the lady ph.d.'s in my dept. We hadn't seen each other for weeks and seriously spent the whole time laughing and talking on top of each other (in a good way). So great.

My son came back from overnight camp. He was so nervous to go but had a great time and was talking about it excitedly all day.

I finally got hangers so I can put up this really beautiful giant, wild horse painting-print I bought ages ago without putting tumbtacks in the print or my wall (I wish I could afford to frame it but I can't and this will do just fine). I'm going to put it up tonight and it is going to look awesome.

I made chocolate-carob chip walnut cookies from the cookie recipe in Veganomicon. They are awesome. Thanks Isa!

That is three things I know... I am shiitake with directions.

landed a fairly huge piece of functionality for a project at work. I'm pretty satisfied, and there are still a few things to clean up, but I'm most of the way there.. nowwww I can sleep

I finally got Ethics committee approval to go ahead with the primary data collection part of my thesis two days ago, which is a major good thing because I've been waiting on this since April.
Anyway, now, people are responding to my survey! And they've all been really helpful and given interesting answers that aren't ten paragraphs long, but still contain some detail!

I was feeling a bit stuck and uninspired, but this is making things interesting for me again. Hurrah! Hopefully I'll be able to do some interviews soon.

PM'd you! I figure the rest of the PPK don't really need to hear about my research unless they're interested (in which case, I can PM them too).

I just discovered nobody read or responded to a work assignment I sent out like a month ago. I've been cringing waiting for my boss to pester me for updates, especially as I'm going away next week on short notice. WELL. NOW I can just re-send the same outline and be like "...uh, guys?"

FOR ONCE I am not the lazy bottleneck! YAY!

Also, instead of hours of work? 5 min! Done! WHEEEEEEEEEE I can do my FUN work tomorrow!!!!!! And leave early for vacation! Without feeling at all guilty!

*happydance!!!*
