Avoiding 100 degree heat while spending the morning lounging in bed, planning out a potential April 2013 trip to NOLA. Vegan food & museums are what excellent vacations are made of!!
I going to eat one of those sno-ball things to beat the heat when I get down there. (They're vegan, right?)

My dog is here! He mostly lives with my ex in Indiana, but since my ex is spending most of the summer taking road trips across the country to help our friends move, my awesome dog is here with me for a while! He just got here Thursday night and this morning we took a very long, leisurely, awesome walk around the neighborhood.
Also a very long phone call with my awesome mother. She's going to come visit for a few days in August and I'm excited!

I don't remember details of the dream I had last night, bus some how it involved my ex-gf, and some how we met. Instead of avoiding or running away from her like in previous dreams (or nightmares), this time I decided to not back away from her and to be myself.
There was some kind of exchange as "I can talk about us in an adult way", and though she hardly replied, I said some things about the relationship without judgement, regrets or hatred.
So this dream that was so opposite of what I had in the past was a good start of the day.:)
Also bought a smartphone today, a decision I've been thinking over for several months. Now I can leave the doubt on "should I get a smartphone and if yes, which one?" behind me.

Gorgeous weekend for veging out. As great as it'd be on Ameland or Schiermonnikoog (2 semi-local islands) this weekend, I"m stoked about having a weekend AT HOME where the farthest adventure I've been on was to the outdoor market yesterday (10 minutes' roundtrip by bike). I've slept 2 x 12 hours, which is ridiculous, and have made so much gorgeous food - like yesterday's pizza, totally from scratch, or some kind of ratatouille-inspired quiche-thing today. Feels pretty luxurious.

I've had several good days in a row but haven't been on the internet.
Best thing about Sunday: I had a ridiculously sore stomach and my boyfriend came round to give back my bike that he'd borrowed. Seeing I was in pain, he said 'I shall make you a tiny cupcake.' He took a petit four case from the tub he saw on the windowsill, said 'I don't have any cake batter so I'll use this pebble' and put in a tiny, round piece of grit. Then he said 'I don't have any chocolate so I'll use this piece of bark' and put in a tiny fragment of bark or wood. Then 'I don't have any icing so I'll use this old white receipt' and folded it up and put it on top. Then 'I don't have a cherry so I'll use this shell 'and he placed half a pistachio nut shell on top and handed his creation to me. It was completely spontaneous and so, so sweet.
Best thing about Monday: seeing my wonderful granny and knowing I was staying with her 'til Saturday.
Best thing about Tuesday: taking my granny's beautiful, happy dog for a long walk in the countryside.
Best thing about Wednesday: I was up a ladder/platform clipping a hedge and my cousin randomly came over with two of my gran's hens and put them on the platform with me. They're lovely sociable hens and they weren't scared. I chatted to them and they clucked at me and pecked at the ladder. One of them walked onto the hedge (which was dense enough to support it) but luckily decided not to go into the vegetable garden (gran had to put big fences up as they love scratching the plants up). Those hens may have been the best part of my week.

You should have smacked it out of his hand and said: "you promised me a cupcake, bisque!"

We played an awesome gig yesterday with some really good friends and made some new friends in the process. It was at a biker bar that had great facilities and a good atmosphere. I'd love the opportunity to go back there again soon.

Today is the first day of California's ban on manufacturing, buying, or selling foie gras!

Yesterday's: I cooked dinner with friends and then ate and hung out until everyone's toddlers got a little too crazy and had to go home to bed. It was so much fun.

Today I'm celebrating that it's been one year since I started HRT. A guy on youtube talked about the effects of testosterone in one of his videos, and said "you're gonna eat and shiitake like it's nobody's business" and that sums it up pretty well.

Dinner with my stepsister who I haven't seen in a long time and is one of my favourite people. She's currently getting a Masters that is similar to what I want to do and she was really excited about my proposed thesis and thinks I'll be great and is going to give me contact info for profs she knows. So great!

Tacos 'n' cocktails with biker boy and friends at a rad little place down the street from me. I love when I can go out with omnis and still order straight off the menu with no questions or substitutions. That, and we've been working on a really hard puzzle forever and it's finally starting to take shape. It sounds boring and lame but it's actually fun. You can be competitive or collaborative, or both.

Today is the first day in almost 2 weeks that I haven't wanted to scratch my legs off (I got over 80 mozzie bites (60 of which were on one leg) when I was on holiday and was in itchy hell for the last week or so). The cream the pharmacist gave me finally has dried them out and they now only itch every now and then, but not enough for me to scratch. YAY!
Now I just have to wait for them to disappear because my legs currently look like I have some sort of horrible plague on them! haha.

i am just catching up from my month without internet (and my new horrible connection, which is impacting my life in various ways) and i spent about 4hours with my mom over the last two days on skype. thank goodness.
also, catching up: not sure if this is best or worst thing: we were planting flowers in the backyard some weeks ago and my kid reached out to grab a spade and a tarantula fell out of her pant leg. just a little baby one, but a tarantula nonetheless (i'm thinking dorayaki sized... which makes it bigger than an oreo but smaller than a hockey puck.). i am terrified of spiders but managed to evacuate it without incident, and the kid survived with just a few tears.

We went to a pub music quiz and came eighth out of thirteen. Now, I know that sounds pretty mediocre (and it is!) but that's good. My friends and I generally beat the shiitake out of young inexperienced teams at music quizzes, this gives us a challenge! We had a really fun evening and a great walk home with the full-looking moon (don't know if it actually is but it was pretty!) and the smell of lime-flowers most of the way.
