i REALLY want one, just with the purpose of freaking people out on the beach.

Definitely not, swimming with knees and feet together is not something the human body was meant to do!

My daughter has one of these, but from a different website which is not quite as expensive. they are a p.i.t.a. to lug to and fro swimming spots, but a real conversation starter, to be sure. Makes my core hurt to watch her swim in in,looks very tough. I think hers cam from mermagica.com, where there are, yes, merman tails as well!

Butterfly hater!

Doing butterfly with fins is kinda fun, so I imagine it might IF designed like swim fins.

(I prefer breast stroke and froggy kick so I dunno, but I do like to pull out butterfly to be impressive on occasion)

and that creature is a manatee. (aka a true mermaid. not like those imposter mermaids.) i'm assuming the beacon is attached for tracking purposes. (or to alert speedboats, possibly? manatees are notoriously susceptible to being hit by speedboats.)

The manatee is O.G. He'd be schooling the mermaids if it weren't for the beacon. Happy to hear it might be for alerting speedboats. I thought it was just another control mechanism for the video.

Looking at a video, they only do it for the first second right after they dive in. Which does surprise me but I still hold my opinion as they promptly switch to regular swimming once they've gained propulsion. I bet it'd be really hard for a non-athlete to swim like that though. Hurts my stomach muscles thinking about it!

i think they might do it right after they turn around too. (my assumption is that it might be more effective while completely underwater, because they switch to regular once they reach the surface.)

actually, i have always known that i wanted one of these. maybe i can talk one of my aspiring-filmmaker friends to cast me in a be kind, rewind-style remake of splash.
