About a week ago on the way to the gym we spotted an injured chocolate lab on a busy street. We chased her down and put her in the car. We went around asking if she was anyone's and posting fliers. No luck. She was old, had injuries from being hit by a car we assume and everyone said call animal control. Instead I called a few rescue people, searched on local sites, fed her, gave her meds and found her a forever home! They picked her up last night & are letting her sleep in their bed! :)

I got back from a wonderful four-day vacation at a beautiful mountain lake with a cute guy. We got along great, had some capers, saw some wildlife, and generally relaxed. Now I'm at home with my sweet little dog, totally engrossed in a good book, about to go treat myself to Nepalese food, and not too bummed about having to go back to work tomorrow.
I mowed my new lawn for the first time today, overseeded the sparse patches, put in some hostas and ground-cover-y plants, and added some beauty bark. My little tiny yard looks so pretty and yard-like!

One of my besty-best pals is moving back to Seattle! Soon! She's been gone 3 years and I miss her bunches. Now I have something great to look forward to at the end of summer.
And I talked to my manager about maybe hiring her, and she's going to talk to him about the opening. It might not work because he might want to fill it befor she can get here, but I can hope!
Asked her about it today and she said I can't ask because she doesn't want to jinx anything, but I can feel free to give a little squee! *squeeeeee*

Okay, my boss is stupid and bought a foofy dog from a breeder and shows her off like a trophy. He makes it hard, but I try not to hold it against her when she comes in because, ain't her fault she was born. Anyway, she came in today and i'm pretty sure she's made out of nothing but jello, a mop head, and a squeaky toy for a bark, and I sat her in my lap during lunch because she kept yipping at the back door when my boss left to get food. Then she climbed on my desk and stuck her entire face in my empty yogurt cup, and when I tried to wipe the slime out of her face fur, she ate the paper towel. Then she cleaned herself off by jamming her face in my water cup.
I am not used to tiny puppies anymore.

Saturday- We had our first session of a found-object assemblage sculpture class that I'm assisting with, organized through an awesome feminist art gallery and held at a Mexican community center in Chicago. The participants are all women who don't have much or any experience with art but they made such awesome stuff and seemed really excited about being there! I left feeling great and inspired to come home and make things.
Also, the heat wave broke and my house/the world was tolerable- even nice!- to be in again.
THEN i went dancing with friends at a monthly queer dance party/micro-grant-fundraiser. An extremely cute woman started dancing with me and was all flirty. Unfortunately she somehow escaped without my noticing and I didn't get her phone number or anything. Hopefully she's vegan and reads the PPK and we'll have a PPKonnection through this thread...
I also generally had a ton of fun dancing all silly with strangers toward the end of the party and I think I got dance-picked up by a gay man who I had lots of fun dancing with.
Sunday- Grand Opening for the cat shelter I work at at our new awesome facility! It was so packed. There was yummy food donated by Native Foods. I ate too much and drank a good amount of wine.
Then had some very awesome sexy times.
Then went to a Mates of State show that I super enjoyed with my darling. We both got too drunk on not a huge amount of booze because we had eaten so much at 3 pm that we only had some handfuls of tortilla chips for dinner. So instead of coming home we went out dancing for another hour until the bar closed. I consider it a huge success to dance until closing two nights in a row! Then biked home so fast on my bike that I recently got a new chain and cassette on and felt awesome, made tofurkey sausages and kale from the garden and collapsed into bed and my life was great.

Oh, that sounds so adorable!
I think the best thing about my day was getting to sit in an almost deserted staff room/green room (which is actually painted green. Gosh, theatre types are so witty, right?) at lunchtime and read my book in silence. It's a small thing, but it was just so perfect and peaceful and lovely. And the book, Pnin, by Vladimir Nabokov, is wonderful, so that helped.

The whole of yesterday was a best thing. My friend and I drank fruity ciders then got on a train to London, went to ms cupcake and got cookie sandwiches for later on in the day. Then we had Thai food, more drinks and then saw Incubus at Brixton Academy. They were amazing and I had a pretty good view for most of the concert (I'm a short-arse so this is rare!). Even the train ride home was good because I ate my cookie sandwich!

Finished the revisions. 2000 more words than I'd anticipated. (Oops.) It's in my supervisor's hands right now - after he ok's it, I'll send it to one or two others before zapping it off to the editor.

I had a really crappy day yesterday where everything just went wrong. It was one of those if-one-more-thing-goes-wrong-I'm-gonna-completely-lose-it-oh-look-here's-something-else-horrible-to-deal-with kinds of days. But! I handled it like a normal person dealing with that level of stress, unlike my usual, anxiety-riddled, over-emotional, basket-case self.
So, YAY for progress!

Birthdays are the forking best! Thank you, society, for deciding that birthdays mean something even though they really are just like any other day! STOKED!
I have Birthday-Embiggened Balls™, so I gave my crush a little flower posy. He seemed really happy about it! And was asking me about all the flowers and tried to smell it (sadly, it had no scent, but I think it shows he liked it).
And my coworkers got me a slice of cake and put a candle in it! I made a wish and everything!
