I was gonna talk about my snuggly cat, but then I came in here and saw Mars' and Gulliver's exchange and it made me giggle and took the new place. That delighted me.

I love when writing happens. I finished the revisions for submission, and am waiting on comments from 3-4 people. I wrote the intro. to another co-authored paper, and am about to write the intro to another solo piece. Then, I get to go and play with my friend's super cute baby girl! She's 11 months old and looks like Cindy Lou Who from Dr. Suess.

My mom sent me a video of my babydog! She was saying "Say hi! Say hi to Randi! Your sister loves you! Say hi!" and I swear to god, it LOOKED LIKE HE WAS MOUTHING HI. I died like 10x.

I got a new tattoo outlined a few weeks back, and tonight I went in to get the color done. It was a loooong sitting (we started around 5 and finished at 11... We took some breaks, but all told, it was quite a haul), including continuing after shop closing. The shop owners live just upstairs, and one of them stopped in and hung out with us for the last half an hour or forty five minutes of the tattooing and... best part... brought us whiskey! So when the guy finished tattooing me, we had whiskey shots and high fives.

Plus he loves the art he did on me so much that he's going to use it on his business cards!

I have a teensy crush on him, so tonight was just a delight.

After a lot of contemplation, today I finally filled out an application to go back to school! It's just to a community college to bone up on some science classes before I head back to a university. And I'm already working on the uni application, since it's due in a week. I'm super excited regardless, because I finally figured out what I want to do with my life.

The timing's a little wonky. It's too late to apply for any FAFSA stuff, and I did pretty crappy in my last semester, so I'm relying entirely on loans at first. I figure it's better to suck it up for a year and reapply for financial aid for the following year. If I wait until I can get aid, I won't go back.

It is not too late. The priority deadline passed in March, but that doesn't mean all hope is lost. Have you spoken to the financial aid office? They always told me summer aid is blah blah not guaranteed but I always got it in the end because funds were still available. At least you can hopefully get subsidized Stafford loans or so,etching. Those are awful enough to repay without getting private loans.

I was finally offered a staff position at the place where I've been "permalance" for almost a full year now. Signed the offer last night! Yay I'm a real person.

my sister started ashtanga yoga (mysore style) today. it was really cool to practice with her this morning; made my day start off in an awesome way! i think it's because yoga is something i love, my sister is someone i love - and the merging of the two makes me smile.

happyfaced: i totally understand! it made me so happy when my sister and i started to do yoga (and other outdoor adventures) together, too.

in other good news, i finished another round of revisions and am rewarding myself by buying tickets to berlin (*to see amma, my guru) and going home to read a book.

A colleague brought cupfins (a hybrid of cupcakes and muffins) to work because she's leaving and also it was her birthday, and she made a special trip to a vegan cafe to get a small cake just for me! It's the second time it happens, as the previous colleague who left did the same and bought me some cookies. I love my team! They are awesome!

As part of my continuing obsession with obscure* recipes, I've just discovered a load of resources or medieval European recipes. The spice palate looks amazing and I'm going to treat myself to a fuckton of spices after work and make up some powder-douce and powder-fort. They don't seem to distinguish sweet and savoury quite as much as we do. A surprising number of them are vegan, what with the crushing poverty and plentiful fast days.

Almond milk has been used in England since the 14th century! I've seen Victorian recipes using what we now call seitan as well (I like to call it wheat meat because it's both more authentically/pretentiously English and seitan sounds like Satan and I don't want fallen angels in my food, they surely ain't vegan).

* non-standard Western European or Asian, I guess

I got my first freelance writing check in the mail! Now my checking account is back up to three figures. Still can't pay my student loan bill though.

Go you! It feels good to get paid for writing, doesn't it?

Hope the student loan thing works out.

It will never work out because I am always going to be too poor to pay my bills/student loans/rent/credit card debt (all vet bill related). I guess that belongs in worst thing about your day. The writing part is exciting though!

Thanks for the tip! It's always best to at least try, because you do never know. I just finished filling it out. I'm not sure if I'll get anything because I was on academic probation my last semester, and failing to get any assistance was what kept me from going then. I'm not letting that stop me this time. Since I'm going back to a community college and not a university, I can probably afford a couple classes on my own, especially if they let me do some sort of payment program.

I got my acceptance email today! I'm gonna head down there tomorrow since I also have to renew my license at the DMV (shoulda done that 6 months ago when it expired). I'm so excited, I bought myself a Kindle in celebration!

My chemistry teaching endorsement is now official!

I've been checking the query database lately since it should have come some weeks ago. I was starting to think that they didn't submit the paperwork for me after all. It is lovely that they do since many districts don't and it's $50 plus a hassle.

I don't need it for anything, I suppose, but it is nice to have.

Also: they are hiring subs for next year and all I have to do is show up and fill out a special form since I'm already in the employment system. This means that I can take an occasional sub job next year. It pays $100 a day, so I'd profit about $80-85 after gas. This means that if I want something frivolous like fancy nail polish or a new skirt, I can work a day and get it. This is also good for my budgeting since I can't rationalize just getting it anyway.

Since its the same commute, or worse, I wouldn't be doing it too often, but the option will be great. The districts near me are all on sub hiring freezes or I'd try to do it at the middle school that is across the street from where I live.

Going to go give a $100 to a dog rescue that helped us place a dog we found last week. My parents pitched in! I know this will help the person get more dogs out of the shelter into a home!
