The 'Poor Service in Vegetarian Restaurants' thread is the best thing about my day.

Everything. It was my birthday, I had a party (something I don't think I've ever done as an adult), I got to see almost all of my favorite people, and ameyfm made me a cake. Now I'm snuggling on the couch feeling just delightfully cheerful about everything.

Roasted vegetable pizza, falafel, pasta arrabbiata, hummus, soy yogurt that wasn't a gazillion dollars, chocolate, and some other stuff I can't remember right now. YAY. Hate to be a downer, but I'm pretty sure that pizza has honey in it unless they changed it again. My best thing was reading the "poor service in veg restaurants" thread. Even though it's still early here, I'm guessing nothing is gonna top that for today.

Thanks PPK! (And Amey, I am so glad you had a good time too! After hosting a party I always feel like, am I the only person who thought that was really super fun?)
Today's best thing: I am sick (see worst thing thread) and a very sweet friend, upon hearing that I'm too ill to come out today, asked if she could take my kid out instead. Yes, yes you can. She is always so thoughtful and helpful like that, I really need to think of a way to show her how much I appreciate her kindness.

Yesterday I told biker boy that I really wanted to go see La Boheme for my birthday, which is a week from Saturday, and I thought the idea had been pretty much dismissed. But he just texted me to see if Friday night would be OK because he has a race the day after my birthday. Yay! I'm gonna get all fancied up and go to the opera with my sweetheart for my birthday!

I went to see a live recording of NPR's Ask Me Another tonight. Michael Ian Black was the guest and it was great.

I just had a wisdom tooth out & it was awesome! The surgeon was really young & professional & super interested in my piercings and the head nurse's favourite restaurant is Terre a Terre (a local fancy veggie place) which is my favourite restaurant! And the other nurse held my hand!
It was great & they even used the bone saw! They wouldn't let me keep the tooth though. It was genuinely a great experience, normally dentists are SO rude to me because of my piercings so it was a really nice change.

I had a friend pass away a few weeks ago and I've been having a hard time with it. I talked to my mom about going to therapy for it, and I totally thought she wouldn't be cool with it, but she was really accepting and totally encouraging. So I'm calling today to make an appointment!

Pretty sure that the campy tortillas I ate (several heated with margarine and smeared with vegan nutella; several others heated with margarine, melted cheezly and avocados) were the best thing about my week. Alternatively, the meeting with my thesis committee was pretty awesome, and I'm looking forward to astanga yoga tonight.

There was a cheek swabbing station down in the lobby and I signed up to become a bone marrow donor!
I have always been wanting to donate my body parts, ever since I was a kid.

I got diagnosed with strep throat! Not traditional good news, but good for me because:
1. The doctor was a dismissive jerk who told me to suck it up. His tech was the one who made sure I got swabbed, and therefore diagnosed. I am SO grateful for that tech. And Dr. Jerk can go fork himself.
2. Now I can take medicine that will make me get better! And I get two days at home to rest, which I need so badly.
I've never been so relieved to be diagnosed with something.

My voice is back! Not totally, but enough that I think I'll make it through the career fair.

My parents are flying in today! I'm excited to see them and show them my place, since they haven't seen it yet. I just wish they were coming to see me because my birthday's tomorrow instead of me having a catheter ablation done for my heart arrhythmia on Thursday morning. Oh well, it'll still be nice to have my family with me either way.

I have always been wanting to donate my body parts, ever since I was a kid. When I had a hip replacement a couple of years ago, the hospital asked me if I would join the Bone Donor Scheme (who knew there was one?!) and donate my old hip. Apparently they use donated bone for reconstruction surgery. I thought that was really cool.

I swabbed my own cheek a couple months ago with a mail-in kit and am on the bone marrow donor list now. I'm probably the least needed demographic, but I'm trying! Best thing today... got a replacement phone (which is meh) and there were a bunch of voicemails! I never get voicemails and people rarely call me. I'm excited to finish syncing my phone so I can listen to them and return calls. I'm not sure who all called (the numbers will change to names soon) but it is multiple people and they don't look like spam numbers.
