Inquiring minds want to know: When reading the Forums, how do you keep track of PPKer contributions? Do you look for usernames, pics, scan for funny sigs, something else? I want to know!

I realize it could be different for different users, but "in general" what do you do?

RFID tags, mostly. They have a tendency to chew the damn things off, though.

Depends what I'm looking on. If I'm on my phone it has to be signatures because the screen isn't wide enough to take in user names/avatars. If I particularly want to know who said something and don't recognise the signature then I scroll across to check the user name.

For me it's usually a mix of avatars and usernames. I used to rely solely on avatars but that would get confusing when someone would change the image.

I recognise people by their avatars. So if someone changes theirs I usually have no idea who they are for a while!

Primarily avatar, falling back on username. I tend to be visually oriented so when I'm scrolling through the boards, I rely on the avatars as shorthand to know who's "speaking". That said, I don't rely completely on avatar, and will adjust fairly quickly when someone changes their avatar. There are also some folks whose avatars are similar enough that my visual brain registers them as the same person unless I check their username.

Primarily by user name, but also by avatar. I'm not very visual, and if I'm already reading text, reading a user name doesn't feel like a shift in what I'm doing, but taking in the avatar feels like I have to shift the focus of my eyes.

Mixture. Name mostly, though changed avatars (and similar ones) confuse me a bit. When I'm on my phone I can't see name or avatar while reading posts so I rely on sig, context or writing style. There are a couple people I can usually recognize by "voice" without having to scroll over and see names or avatars.

avatar! For very regular posters, I mostly know screen names too, but not always. It confuses me when avatars change.

Mixture of avatar & name. It does throw me when someone changes a longstanding avatar.

Entirely avatar. If you want to throw Fee for a loop just take on someone else's avatar and I'll think you're both the same person for years. There's a good chance even when you go back to different ones I won't remember you any more and you'll have to start over new with me.

Avatar, mostly. But I think the name when I see the avatar.

I don't really pay attention to sigs, but some people have colorful text in their sig so that sometimes tips me off.

At work I hide avatars because a mostly-text site makes it look more like I'm working (and that's where I do most of my ppking), so I usually just glance at the username and read the post. Half the time, I don't pay much attention to the name and completely forget who said what. When I have avatars visible, I am more conscious of who is saying what (for the avatars I recognize, anyway). I still forget after a while, though. I'm envious of those of you who always remember who said what.

Sometimes when people address other users in their post by now I get confused and I'm like WHO IS THAT and then I realize I just saw their avatar for 600 posts and never realized their username was so bizarre/unique.

Avatars and names. I get some usernames confused so I fall back on avatars, but that gets confusing when people change it.
