My Baggy is still having a hard time getting over her breakup.
The only breakup movie I can think of is Heathers, which she enjoyed, and she is now watching Mad Max over and over, which is okay but with the new TV we're shaking the house. Can anyone with pop culture knowledge recommend good feel-better-after-breakup kinda stuff? Please?
Thanks!

Sorry for your little one's bruised heart; how well I remember what that felt like! This is an oldie but a goodie, and I always liked how the agency belongs to the singer: she's "not in the market for a boy who wants to love only me." (And how adorable was baby Linda Ronstadt?)

Somebody That I Used to Know - it's basically only tolerable in these situations.

Most songs are breakup songs I feel like?

As for movies I think Veronica Mars would be great. It starts with Veronica having been dumped among other horrible things which has turned her into a badass. Also High Fidelity, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

Boys for Pele is a pretty classic breakup album by Tori Amos. it's a bit of an acquired taste, though.

Fiona Apple has several that could work, depending on your friend's circumstances: Sleep to Dream, Get Gone, Parting Gift, and Not About Love are the best ones i can think of.

PJ Harvey has some that tend to be sort of revenge fantasies - Rid of Me, Legs, and the C'mon Billy video, for instance.

yes, i have been stuck in the 90s since... the 90s ended, basically.

Legally Blonde! She goes to law school in the hopes of winning back her ex but in the process realizes she's waaay better than he'll ever be! Plus, Bruiser the chihuahua.

I'm sorry your little one (who is now not so little!) is heartbroken. I remember my first heartbreak, and although it retrospect it was no big deal, at the time it was the greatest pain I'd ever experienced!

Maybe a little old school, but may I recommend "I Will Survive" (any version) or "Cry Me a River" (has to be Barbra Streisand even if you don't generally care for her)? I also love "Ruin" by the Pierces though it's not a classic.

Man I am going to spend all day thinking about awesome breakup music now.

Thanks so much, I knew y`all were going to be able to help!

We already have had an I Will Survive dance party, which was good.

I am now mentally going through Boys for Pele realizing that yeah, maybe that was kind of a breakup album? When I really got into it I was in such a weird mental space that I never considered it that way. But I have it!

Thanks thanks!!

If she's feeling sad and wants to wallow, "Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley is a good one to wallow to.

I was going to say Legally Blonde! And Muriel's Wedding, all about friendship and Abba songs.

Thanks, I am still noting everything down. There was a lot of angrrrrry music yesterday.

No more wallowing is permitted in my house. It's been almost a month of wallowing. The boyfriend wanted to "just be friends again" and he is a really nice (if completely bloody clueless) guy, which is what is the worst thing about this, as it sort of dragged the whole bloody mess out. Over the last week or two I and her friends have had basically cut him out of every aspect of her life and tried to encourage her to start to get mad about how this entire situation was not really a kind outcome. So we have now evolved to no more speaking of this jerk and angry girl music.

Back when I was a teenager and listened to sad music the "sad mix" I burned onto a CD included NIN's "Something I can never have," Bush's "Letting the cables sleep," and Radiohead's "Paranoid Android." I'd put slow music on and read fantasy novels.

Oh man, Fiona Apple's cover of Sally's Song from Nightmare Before Christmas!

How about 'The Rat' by The Walkmen? It's a good angry song. Also, 'Since U Been Gone' by Kelly Clarkson.
