We have a ghost thread, I thought about posting my UFO story there but figured maybe we should have a UFO thread? Who has seen one? How close was it?
My story is from when I was a child, probably 10 years old or so. My mom and I were camping at an Indian reservation in the mountains of California. The place had showers but they were far from our campsite so we drove to the showers to take a shower at night. The road we were driving on was a dirt road and on one side was a steep hill with trees and on the other side was a river also with trees. On the other side of the river was another steep hill. As we were driving back from the showers (my mom was driving obviously), a UFO came out of no where and was hovering a few feet above the road about 50 feet in front of us. It had a bank of lights on top (4 or 5), large lights in the middle (which looked like they could be windows - 4 of them) and then a bank of lights on the bottom (4 or 5). My mom stopped the car and we just watched it for a few moments. It then darted over the river and up into the sky. We got out of the car and saw it darting in the sky until it disappeared.

I have a couple of UFO stories. When we were moving we decided that my husband would drive the uhaul with his brother and our son in it the long way round the mountains. I would drive our car with the baby and all the pets (this was 13 years ago) over the mountains and meet them there. We left around midnight so it was maybe 1 in the morning when I hit the summit. The exact moment I hit the summit all hell broke loose in the car. Every animal woke up (two cats, a guinea pig, two frogs and a lizard) the baby woke up and the radio just stopped. At precisely the same moment. I pulled over to calm down the baby. What was odd, really odd, is that the radio did not go to static, like it would have when I lost signal. It just stopped.
The next week when I was in class, someone told me that a UFO had been spotted in that general area by hunters. I didn't actually see anything. But that was not a normal trip.

i must have been 19, i was driving at night. my brother was the passenger. it was one of those really dark nights. all of a sudden a HUGE mass of bright lights were hovering over us in the sky. i couldn't see what the hell it was because the light was so intense. my brother and i said "woah" in unison. then it was gone.

Ach! You lucky ducks! I want a cool UFO story.
On the way from California once I saw a white light in the distance appear out of nowhere. Then disappear and reappear a couple times before disappearing for good. That's all I got!
It's too bad because AZ is supposed to be really active, too! Especially Sedona and the North valley.

All right... my second story is not nearly as X-files as my first. I love space. I love the absolutely absurd idea of how huge space is. I used to have a telescope that I would take out to the back and look up into space with. I never really needed to aim at anything specific either. One night I was out there all by my lonesome. It wasn't all that late. I looked up from the telescope and saw moving across the sky a solid white light. It was moving from left to right at what seemed to be a low altitude. It was moving far to slowly to be a meteor and they don't move in that direction anyway. I thought it was a plane, but there were no flashing lights on it. And it was big. Much bigger than a plane. It took probably 2 minutes to cross my field of vision. And then this girl booked in the house. It was certainly an Unidentified Flying Object.

This thread reminds me of that Psych episode. UFOs terrify me, even though I've never had an encounter with one.
