Every night before bedtime, I let my dog out into the yard to pee. And every night I see a light in the window of a house across the street. The light is on the second floor, and is positioned in the center of the corner window. It's very bright, so there doesn't seem to be a lampshade of any kind. 99.9% of the time the light is red. But some nights, like tonight, the light is white (it looks like they switch between a tinted lightbulb and a regular one). I think it must be some kind of signal.

My first thought was that it signaled whether or not illegal substances or activities were available for purchase. Or maybe it's a warning for somebody. Or maybe they're extraterrestrials and are signalling their home planet! IT'S A MYSTERY. What do you think it means? All theories accepted, no matter how bizarre.

Simple. A deep-cover operative is signaling his handler. White means "I have information. Meet at the coffee shop on Delmont."

According to the Lynda Craig mysteries I read as a kid, it means it's safe to bring the stolen palominos up the mountain trail.

*Writes down theories in special detective notebook.*

I really wish I didn't have work tomorrow and could spy on the house tonight to see if anyone enters/exits.

Or! Maybe tonight is the night that deliveries of French brandy and Belgian lace will be made to landowners who "look the other way."

I have a better idea. Knock on the door and ask if bluebells are singing horses and then report back and tell us what happens.

you should mark on the calendar the days it is a different color to see if there is a pattern!

The only thing that comes to mind is that they have reptiles. We used to switch from heat lamp to sun lamp throughout the day/night, when we had snakes and lizards.

This is the logical answer. But nowhere near as much fun as aliens or smugglers.

I couldn't think of anything clever so I decided to chime in as the voice of reason (not to be confused with Voice of Raisin, who is way smarter than I am).

Ha! But maybe they are alien reptiles, being bred to take over the planet?

You need to keep reporting back on this! Will they switch back to red? What if they switch to green or purple?

maybe the white and red are being used like Morse code...and over time it will reveal itself to be words!

or maybe there is a house on your side of the block with similar lighting going on and it is actually signaling secret lovers to a midnight tryst!

I am going to check tonight to see if it's back to red. And I'm going to write down the dates when it changes. It's only white every couple of months, and then that's usually only for one night, maybe two. I'm hoping it's nothing logical, but is instead a complicated mystery which I will solve and then be awarded reward money and possibly a key to the city.

Red light district!

I'm so intrigued! I can't wait to hear about if it's on/what color tonight!
