YESYESYES. That's what I loved about VVC II. I mean, #1 was great, but now we're settling into it and getting lots of great feedback and bringing up some themes and concepts that (IMHO) are crucial to furthering veganism. If this trend continues, we may fully save the world somewhere around VVC V-VI.

It's no secret I think Ginny Messina is great but her panel with Gena Hanshaw and Jasmin Singer was really good. Someone asked about how to counter people who say that fats are bad and her advice was that the onus needs to be on the person to supply info to you that this is indeed true (it isn't, there's no science to back it up). I think that is a really great strategy that can be employed for a lot of things. I see a lot of people complain here about friends/coworkers/family who send then info about how soy is bad, veganism is bad, fat is bad and how annoying it is. I think engaging that person in such a way that they must find accurate information to support their own views is a good comeback. And that it is important to get out of one's comfort zine and engage when you hear bad information being passed around.
And something both Terry and Erika brought up in separate classes was that we are ambassadors for veganism, whether we want to be or not. I think that's really good to remember. It may be blase and annoying to hear things over and over, but it's also a chance to tell people about something important.

I had such an amazing weekend! I'm feeling so inspired to improve my photography and to finally make the zine I've been thinking about and I learnt some great tools to help explain why I don't agree with selling non-vegan food at one of my feminist groups events. And so much more, it's been epic.

I also met a TONNE of amazing people who I've known online for ages and I got to spend more time with rad people I've met before. Yay!

Gosh, right?! Working on it! Really, really. This is always a bajillion times harder and more expensive than you'd imagine it to be in Portland (cough cough, Vegan Iron Chef)...which is so frustrating for a tech city! It was just way, way too expensive to do this time around for the venue.
We did do a little bit of professional taping this year, so HOPEFULLY something will come of that.
But, I also think a bunch of youtube vegans taped stuff so that'll probably pop up first!

Anyway.

I love you guys!

Can I just give a massive, massive, huge round of applause for Jess, Janessa, and Michele?! I mean shiitake. That was some crazy awesomeness to pull together, and they did an amazing job.

yeah, seriously! they did such an AMAZING job - with grace and humor and a smile. The VVC weekend is SO special to me, and I am really grateful for all the work they did so that it could happen. They are true forces for Good In The World! :) <3

No kidding, the first one was, like, the best time ever and then I couldn't believe how much improved this year! The location was fantastic, the gala was much improved, it was super fun.

I kind of dont want VVC to leave Portland because its so much fun having it here, it's just the right size that everyone can get to a million places super easy.

If it must move I vote Maui!

I also learned that Salt Lake City has a hotel or something where you can take care of a rescue animal during your stay. We need more companion animals at VVC! I think I might have got that so wrong luckyklutz if you read this tell me again!

Otherwise Milwaukee, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, or LA would be awesome.

I heard Austin is overrated.

I needed to come back to the PPK (why was I away so long?) because VVC was SO amazing and inspiring and I want Vegan Summer Camp to be all year round! Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a special experience. I can't wait to blog and use swatches and what not! The best part was finally getting to meet so many of you. You're good people.
