I have a coworker from Hong Kong. He's been here 25+ years and his English is great. He also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese and uses them a lot at work because he has lots of Chinese clients. He wandered up to my desk to ask me a question and, although he started in English, he switched to Cantonese mid-sentence (and it was a long question!) When he finished, we just looked at each other for a second and then started laughing and laughing and laughing until we were both in tears.

My brain wasn't even fully done sorting out why I was no longer understanding him by the time he finished talking and started busting up. It was just one of those absurd moments. But it's fun to laugh that hard sometimes. (Sorry someone gave you the stink eye!)

I'm home. I LOVE to travel (just spent 10 days in Portland, OR... awesome), but I love to come home too. I'm unpacked and hanging out in my pajamas on my own bed.
And I don't have to do a time zone adjustment. Sleeping 4am-10am EST is the same enough as sleeping 2am-8am PST... staying up all night in Boston worked out well for this trip anyway.

drove home early AM from my crush's apartment & stopped by his local Whole Foods for a coffee and fresh-baked blueberry muffin that was on "early bird special" for, like, $1. the coffee was mediocre but that muffin was SO FORKING GOOD.

Went to B.P. Crush's house this morning at like 7:45 before I had to go to work at 10. Lots of making out, some other stuff... And actually some pretty great conversation, in which it was made known that I give him butterflies!

ERMAHGERD. Today when my cousin got on his motorcycle to go to the store, his dog jumped in the sidecar and sat down to go with him. Watching them drive away was the cutest thing ever!

So far, waking up to a house that smells like ginger beer! I started two batches last night, one with added chillis, and hopefully they'll be ready for the London Vegan Potluck on Wednesday. My house smells so deliciously lemon-and-gingery at the moment.

Oh wow. That sounds like something I'd love to have the recipe of. Yesterday, I bought a pair of all black hi-top trainers. I'd been looking for a pair for quite a while, but all vegan options were not my thing and/or not my size. Then I just happened to be in my local skate shop yesterday to buy new bearings for my skates, and despite not having any real hopes, I asked for black hi-top vegan shoes. The boy working there walked over to the racks and picked up the shoe I'd been looking for all along. Turns out that that particular skate brand did a line of vegan shoes. <3

Best thing: Finishing right in the middle of my age bracket in a 5 mile race, my mile time was sub 9, which is awesome for me since before the last couple races the last timed miles I'd done were in high school and the last time I was sub10 was freshman year. Also, since we were the largest group we won the 'bustonian award' or some such and get a ride on the bustonian for an evening. Or some of us do. (Group is larger than bus capacity, lol) and we had the third fastest group, over all! (measured by fastest 3 people, one of which has to be a female) Ooh, and touchy feely with a guy from work. Even if it goes nowhere, he said nice things that made me all squishy. (from two days ago)

I'm going to a Craft Bowl party today. I'm bringing cinnamon rolls, brownies, lasagna, and buffalo unchicken dip so I'll have loads of goodies to eat while I'm getting my craft on with my best buds. So excited!!

Yesterday was my twenty-first birthday and it was easily the best birthday I've ever had. We got dinner (sadly, not at a vegan place, 'cause it was packed, but still yummy) with my sober friend and under-21 friend, left there, and returned to the area of town near our house and went to a pinball bar with two of my coworkers, then stumbled upon nerd rap (which was...so awkward), left, and went to a pub to sit down and hang out. I hung out with someone I haven't talk to in months, got to know my coworker's fiance better, and did exactly what I wanted. I wanted to hang out with people, have a good time, and not be ill in the morning. I'm pleased.
And now tonight, I get to have vegan stew and cake with my dad, stepmom, and brother. It'll be fantastic.

She'd look super cute with doggy goggles riding along. Best thing today... starting the day off with coffee and a book at the cafe. Usually I'm on my computer first thing, it was nice to chill with a book for an hour.

I've reached my first goal of 2013! I deadlifted 55kg this morning. My legs feel fine but the existing callouses on my hands are a little sore. I hope to have it up to 65kg by the end of the month.
