That's super exciting Olives!

I'm having the greatest week. I'm in New York doing some pet sitting and getting to spend time with my new doggie pal is so fun. I also met up with Tofulish (and Leela!), Monkeytoes & blondiefk the other day and we had dim sum and hung out at the park and got ice cream and PPKers are just so cool and fun! Today I had amazing pizza and I have Lagusta chocolate for later and I just love this city!

So jelly. I want to someday meet T and Leela!

I had a pretty crepe day, but had a couple of long pending conversations with friends. It feels good to sort things out, put a period on some sentences that have been dangling.

First chilly morning of the year, and I'm sitting on my couch in leggings and a sweater and my slippers. I have a cup of tea and a book and I just finished a big piece of toast made from the cornmeal jalapeno sourdough I picked up at the farmer's market yesterday.

Also I'm going to see Margaret Atwood speak later this week!!! I can't decide which book I should have her sign.

Ooooh! She's lovely to see speak. What is she reading from? I would have her sign The Edible Woman and Angel Catbird, respectively. The very first and the latest of her books I've read.

I need a copy of Angel Catbird so badly, but I've been waiting until I can make it to my hometown's independent bookstore.

I believe she's reading from The Handmaid's Tale, as the talk is associated with the summer reading program at a college not too far from me and that was the choice.

Oh awesome! Perhaps she'll have copies of her other books for sale. I would if I were her--not often the author takes that much of the proceeds, although Margaret Atwood is not exactly a starving writer.

So jealous! I don't have any advice for which book to have her sign since I love too many of them. She's one of my favorite authors and I'd probably turn into a babbling idiot if I got to meet her in person, even for a minute.

Yeah, I was basically too awestruck to say anything at all to Margaret Atwood when I went to hear her speak. It coincided with the release of the last Maddadam book, which I bought there so that is the one I have signed. I wish I'd have brought my ratty old paperback copy of The Handmaid's Tale, which is ratty because I have read it a jillion times and have loaned it to everyone I could foist it upon and is therefore well-loved.

Exciting, pasta bake! I'd love to see her speak!

My best thing is that my husband and I just booked flights to Vancouver for our anniversary trip next year. We're also going to be spending time in Seattle and Portland, but Vancouver was the cheapest to fly into. I've never been to Canada or the US and I've wanted to visit the Pacific Northwest since I was a babydoll dress-wearing, grunge-loving teenager (I am still two-thirds of that thing), so needless to say I am super excited!!!

Yesterday: went to SF alone, treated myself to a nice vegan breakfast (and got to skip the forming brunch line because I was just sitting at the counter by myself! amazing!), wandered a bit more for a total of 13 hilly mi, then met up with a friend and just hung out for a bit before going home. Really nice way to spend a day.

Disappearing Ink, that is so exciting! I hope you two have a great trip!

I've been out of sorts all week. Bad commutes, back hurting, vicious cramps. I was craving chocolate or cookies or sugar like mad today, and then in walked our ELL teacher with a box of snicker doodles and a box of speculoos cookies from Trader Joe's!

Last week was her first visit of the year to us and she brought chocolate. She seemed to feel bad that she forgot I was vegan, but I told her i really appreciated the thought and that we would just share any extra with the kids. Apparently it really bothered her not to have something for and asked staff to pick out some vegan goodies.

Cookies were exactly what my day needed. The weather was scary this morning, with flooding and it took me 3 1/2 hrs to get to work, including several near accidents and hydroplaning while going under 5 mph.

I hope the trip to Vancouver is awesome! I really want to go someday.

lw- isn't it amazing how much someone remembering to bring you vegan treats can improve your day? What a kind person! (and I hope you feel better)

I forced myself to do a lot of responsible stuff I've been putting off, but then I gave myself a homespun facial and listened to Tracy Chapman.

Yesterday mostly sucked, but I was at a client site and discovered that one of their cafeterias has So Delicious ice cream sandwiches. YESSSS.

I found a journal I think my kid is going to love (he asked for one for his birthday) and I got to play D&D!

I went to Sneinton vegan market and had a huge burger from Vegan Grindhouse. There was a stall selling tofu based Gary and also their own seitan pepperoni that was divine. There's pepperoni pizza in my future.

Long bike ride during the 4-hour window between thunderstorms! (Also, finding extremely cute puppies for sale near us.)

Finding Schmidt's Rose Vanilla deodorant. I love the smell of it! I just hope it can keep me stink-free for 12+ hours at work.

Sleeping on our new mattress and pillows: Japanese futon (8 layers of eco-cotton with some gratuitous coconut fibers) and v. crunchy spelt husk pillows. Wish we had bought them when I moved in last January!

Yesterday: my friend from LA who I didn't get to go see last weekend came up here this weekend instead! We hung around all day while our kids played together. It was great.
