It rained earlier. I'm by the window. . . I can smell it.

Oh, man. The smell of rain.

We live in the prettiest place! Last night we gazed at the Milky Way before going to bed, and this morning woke up with Orion and his friends over the hedge. Now the horizon is gorgeous blood orange over the fjord and distant trees as the stars fade away.

All of our biggest do-nothing, hostile crassholes were absent, and I swam an entire lap in reasonable form.

So, I spent all day with lazy asparagus kids who have not turned in a single assignment in 2-3 weeks, which severely depresses me because I am completely useless under those circumstances. One of the assignments was making a damn island out of play doh and then drawing a map. They sit there and sulk. bullshiitake.

So. Then I come to GED and one of my students is waiting with a mile wide grin and waving his temporary CDL license! He passed on his first try. This is a guy who has been in the US from Mexico for 5 years and has mostly taught himself English. He reads to his little kids every night and tries to help them with their homework. When they come to a word he doesn't know, they look it up together.

Melts my cold heart.

Lw, I was thinking about starting a teacher support thread. This week has been quite challenging for me. But then this afternoon several kids came up and gave me big hugs when they saw me, and a few of them got pretty into our project, so. It makes the kids who tell me they hate me and want to be anywhere other than my room that much more tolerable.

Your GED student sounds awesome. I try to incorporate a lot of reading into my art classes with little kids, and whenever I get to a word that I think the kids might not know, I read the word then ask if they know it, and explain. Over the summer one of my kids started preemptively stopping me to ask what words meant If she didn't know, and I was so pleased to be teaching her that it's ok to not know something, and to ask questions to find out, because that's how you learn.

I'm glad your students were so nice. That would make up for a lot.

The cat busy cleaning herself in my arms right now is the best thing. She does not judge me for how my day was a mess of guilt, embarrassment and stupidity I'm in a hurry to forget. She's warm and cute and cuddly and happy I exist. That's bliss.

I was at bulk barn, looking for stuff to buy to use up my coupon, when I saw someone who looked just like an old friend that I used to work with whom I hadn't seen in 5 years.

Except it was her.

And she lives 6 (rural) houses down from me now! She moved here in July when my good friend and neighbour moved away and she has been trying to get back in touch with me.

Suddenly she just showed up in front of me and I went over to her new place after and drank wine with her and her husband and sister and our mutual friend and it was a really great couple of hours. I haven't been this happy in a while. It was a nice reunion.

Last night our wee Monty was lying down on me. But Mr8 was twanging a very loud guitar in the next room so Monty kept getting startled, and then lying back down. He has the pinkest ears and his hair still feels like baby hair. I was covered in white hair after just a few minutes.

Did a phone interview this morning for a job I really want and it went really well and at the end she said she wanted to schedule an in-person interview for next week! It would be a 60% salary increase for me.

Just found out I have a three day weekend. Woo! I knew it was mother hubbard Columbus Day but for some reason I thought I still had to work.

I bought the classiest, most perfect lamp on clearance at TJ Maxx for $20. It's mint green and I'm pretty sure it was made for me. It was hidden behind some candle holders on the top shelf and I just happened to look up and there it was!

It's making me so excited for when I get my house and get to buy great little things like this lamp to make my house adorable and perfect inside.

Good luck srock!

My friends are fostering 5 (five!!!) kittens, and 3 were supposed to be neutered/spayed and returned to the shelter this afternoon, as they've made weight. But they forgot to fast those kittens, so all 5 were still at their house when I came by for dinner. So I get to hug and play with all the kittens!

I went for a long, hot run. It seems cliche but there's something really purifying about heat-- it's like it sucks so much that all your other little problems just fall away. I'm home now, being a normal temperature, being thankful for my access to a shower and clean clothes and a soft bed to lie on.

Yay! These are the best kind of finds. I LOVE TK/J Maxx.

My best thing lately is pretty great.

So! I've been writing a ton of stories for [REDACTED]. In fact, they've bought so many from me (the total has now reached triple digits) that I've been asked to start writing under pseudonyms.

I get to make up pen names. Which is something I can't believe I haven't been doing my whole life. Because it is awesome.

Some say, we are all just pseudonyms of FootFace.

Congrats!

Lots of shakeups in the marketing department at my work. My boss got demoted, her boss got pulled from my team and I have a whole new reporting structure and title. An improvement on both fronts. I'm pretty stoked.

Big day: It has now been exactly four years since I started going to the gym every day (and keeping track). And in that time, I have missed only 14 days. I HAVE AN IRON WILL.

I've had this stupid dent in my car for almost a year. I don't "know" what happened, but I always just assumed my kind of bisque-y neighbor who once yelled across the street to me, in the middle of a snow storm, asking if I could please not park across the street from her driveway (which is where my front gate was) because it was "hard" not to hit my car when she backed in. Had to be her, right? Anyway, I got one of those suction cup dealies from Amazon for $6 and, while it did take a couple tries to get full suction (hehe), it pulled the dent right out!

I had googled to get an idea of what it may cost to fix and most estimated at least a couple hundred bucks, so I'm pret-ty pleased with myself.
