So, I work for an airline that tends to run pretty conservative (despite our merger with another airline one could best describe as "cheeky") but tonight I was able to play a big part in helping out some refugees who misconnected in PDX due to weather in Chicago. I feel so damn proud I had the empowerment to do so without getting my hand slapped. The Chicago station, reservations, and PDX all had a little part in making what must have been a hellacious journey just a bit easier for these guys.

My best is nowhere near as good as helping refugees, but I finally made a call I've been putting off for over a month. It's a financial thing, so I feel automatically clueless and stupid, but I made the call and left the message. Now I have to wait for the guy to call back.

I got to spend a good chunk of my day hanging out at my merch printer's office where we were lining up some stuff for our upcoming festival. The two of us are a kickass design tag team and every time we sit down together and come up with designs, they're awesome and sell really well, so I always have a feeling of well-being when I leave there. (Or I would have, had I not gotten two texts and a phone call from work people freaking out about dumb stuff while I was there)

Also, in the vein of FF's "I did a thing I've been needed to do" best thing, I finally went to the BMV (Indiana insists on calling it the Bureau of Motor Vehicles instead of the Department of Motor Vehicles) to change the address on my license so I can file an exemption on my property taxes (since you can't do it until your ID matches the address). ...Whatever that is.

The money guy called back, and the procedure that I assumed was going to be complicated and adversarial took about (literally) 60 seconds.

My cat is adorably cute and cuddly. I think that's the best thing about my day, everyday.

What a great reward for making the phone call!

Warning! Warning!

Extreme 70s nostalgia nerdiness ahead.

So as I was driving this morning, I was playing a YouTube playlist over the radio. It was the Gentle Giant album "The Power and the Glory," from 1974.

A song came on that I had never heard. That's not too strange. It's not like I'm a total Giant-head, but I used to own "The Power and the Glory," so this was surprising. It was actually the title track, which, it turns out, was included only on special editions of the LP.

But... I LOVED THE SONG! So I discovered a new old thing!

So! I've been writing a ton of stories for [REDACTED]. In fact, they've bought so many from me (the total has now reached triple digits) that I've been asked to start writing under pseudonyms.

I get to make up pen names. Which is something I can't believe I haven't been doing my whole life. Because it is awesome.

It has now been one year since I signed the NDA for this gig. In that time, I have sold... 132 stories. Good Lard.

Getting my new computer to work as expected :) It was bought from a company which does Ubuntu-installs too so I did NOT have to pay for any windows :) but the wireless was a bit tricky to get running, the chip apparently was so new that I needed a very recent linux-kernel.
But now it works *happy dance*

I moved all weekend and finally got to shower this morning. Best shower of the year. After 3 days of physical exhaustion it felt great.

I got the job I wanted! I'm so happy I want to dance around like Snoopy. I'll work in a new vegan, organic and zero-waste grocery store/bakery that will sell desserts, meals and groceries. I'll be working at the cash register and making the simplest things like sandwiches. The nice owners are from France and are going to make delicious things like lasagna and tarte tatin, which I can eat free when I work a day shift, and I'll have a rebate on groceries. Plus, I can get there on foot so I'll save on a bus pass.

I had various troubles for the last two years, so I'm grateful for a way to earn my living, and doing so in a job that's in harmony with my vegan and environmental values is a dream come true.

Wow! Well done! This sounds like an amazing opportunity and I wish you well.

Now I want a job I can walk to, which sometimes provides vegan lasagna.

I found vegan nacho cheese sauce and vegan pepper jack cheese shreds at my neighborhood not vegan/not even health food focused deli. Very random but welcomed.

New pizza place opened in my city with a large separate vegan menu, including cheesecake! I don't know of any other eating places in this city with vegan cheesecake so I hope it's good, I didn't get any this time but I'm eating their "cheat feast" pizza right now which has fake bacon, ham and chicken on it and it's really good (and filling!).

I found out yesterday that I won a competition from the local credit union to go on a chocolate-making workshop at this really great place in my city that has loads of vegan and fair trade options. I know all the staff at my favourite wholefood shop had a team-building workshop there a while back and had a blast.

Given how shitty a few other things are at the moment this was definitely a welcome surprise.

Turns out they don't have cheesecake at this branch, it's only on their Nottingham menu because the customer base hasn't really picked up here yet, but hopefully I made a good case for them bringing it over pretty soon.

Dropscone those things all sound pretty cool! You guys get the best places opening. I heard we're meant to have an Annie's burger place opening here but I don't know if it'll happen.
