Today was awesome! Went to see the Body Worlds exhibit at the Science Museum with a couple vegan friends, then went to Fasika in St. Paul afterward for lunch. SO GOOD.

My brother came to my house and I made him lunch that he ate lots of and said he was stuffed. I hate that he's ex-vegan and is super full blown omni now but at least he wasn't scared of a vegan lunch. We went grocery shopping together and hit an antiques place while Mr Moon fixed his truck. He ooohed and aaahhed over my house and yard generally was the awesome big brother I never get to see.

I was stuck in a different city from Wednesday until this morning. The highway was closed due to a massive blizzard. I never thought I'd be so happy to change my clothes.

I had a productive day and that makes me happy.

Did the laundry, taxes and most important : made an effort to clean out the shed!

Also met some one who is willing to take two of the three car engines out some time soon! :D

So this was my evening. Not pictured elements of my evening: a really big burrito and lemonade and some pretty swell people.

AWESOME! I like this person already, V_E.

I had awesome Mexican dinner with two awesome ladies, and a sunshine bike trip around the lake (where the wind was so strong it lifted me and the bike multiple times).

The offer letter I've been waiting for showed up today. They didn't try to lowball me, and I got into the program I really wanted to get into (co-op vs internship).

This is going to mean BIG life changes for me. (Most notably, it means I have to learn how to drive pretty much ASAP, or else get ready to commute four hours a day via extremely indirect public transportation.) It means taking a pretty sharp turn away from the subject that's been my academic passion since about 2005, towards something else I love. It also means giving up being home with my kids even a couple of weekdays. It's big.

And I'm scared but mostly I'm so excited. And relieved.

That's so awesome! Congratulations!

Re: driving, do it! I didn't learn how until last year and I love it. My sweetheart told me it would give me an awesome sense of freedom and capability but I was not a believer. More fool me! I had an aunt who didn't learn until well into her 60's; I figure that since I got my license before I hit 40 I'm doing great.

Do you want some unsolicited advice from a stranger who learned to drive super duper late for an American? Of course you do! Get a good and patient teacher (lucky for me, my sweetheart had taught people to drive before, but it is worth it to hire a professional teacher if you can). Look around at insurance rates since you'll be a first time driver (adding me on to my sweetheart's insurance was completely exorbitant so we investigated and got better coverage for a lower rate from another provider). When you go to take the permit test and the driving test there will be people at the DMV who will be surprised you've never driven before. Don't let 'em phase you. :)

Yesterday I re-posted a funny picture from one of my FB friends of a flyer for a detective agency run by two kids in Sweden. Another one of my friends saw it and thought it was super cute and decided to post about it on the website she writes for. Not only did I get the thrill of providing a semi-official translation from Swedish (it's not often I get to feel excessively useful with those language skills), but she linked to my new craft blog! And oh by the way that website she writes for is only freaking Jezebel dot com.

Heh. That's what everyone says. And I believe it. I've commuted by bus/foot/bike for long enough now to admit that there's a certain tedium to it.

I've just really never had an interest or a good reason to learn before. My mom didn't learn to drive until she was in her mid 30s, and my sister (a little over 30) still doesn't have a license...

I actually have a permit already! I got it a year or two ago (not expired yet). This was during one of my rare moments of semi-enthusiasm for the idea, but I didn't have a concrete reason to then get my license so I didn't.

I agreed with my coach that I'm going to be competing at the UK open kettlebell competition in September. I have no idea what weight or group I'll be competing in but it's exciting. I haven't competed in anything since I was at school.

Also my long awaited kawaii boots are now waiting for me at the local post office. I ordered those babies in December!

not only has my friend seen the man who hangs these flyers on the subway, but he has placed one or two of them right into her hands. i am ridiculously excited about this, and i can't believe she's never mentioned it before. i'm always so tempted to call, just to ask him some questions, like how much success he's had and whether i would get my soda before or after the one nite stand.

Accomplished something major today! I just got back from auditioning for a musical!

I literally have no idea if it went well! But even if I was super suck-pants I feel so happy I did that! Yowwwwza!

Had a client tell me that she's met a lot of people in my field who shouldn't be doing this work and that I am not one of them and that I was helping her make concrete positive steps in her life. It's rare that I get that kind of positive feedback due to the state of crisis most of my clients are in so it was really nice and affirming that the work I do is important.
