Discovered today that my PhD supervisor, his wife and I have the same taste in books and movies.
I liked them already -- now? They are that much more cool.

Even though I officially moved at the beginning of July, I haven't had much chance to really live in the house yet. One thing that made it not yet feel like home was that it didn't smell like my home yet. (You know what I mean? For some reason your own home always smells like your own home.) Anyway, we're going to a BBQ later, and I made up a big batch of pasta salad full of fragrant ingredients like onion, garlic, parsley, lemon juice, tomatoes, and capers. I went outside for a bit and came back in. NOW the house smells like my house. :D

This might be a weird thing to be happy about, but I just got a call from my boss. Enrollment dropped again, so they asked if I would be ok with working half time again like I have been instead of 2/3 time. 2/3 time is obviously more money, but it would mean going every day instead of every other. Was not looking forward to the extra driving, plus gas money eats up a lot of the extra anyway. Plus, I'd rather have less money than more back pain.

I'm so glad I didn't quit my extra GED hours yet! I almost did yesterday. That's an extra $500/month though, so I can handle that and save up money to go to Ireland next summer! Plus, I really love doing the GED classes, so more hours/experience there is great.

Molly will be happy too! She would not have been happy had I suddenly started being gone from 4am to 10 pm M-Thurs, even if that meant all the expensive organic blueberries she can eat.

So, fork that. I have to work every day. So my life is going to be all back pain and driving 4 hrs a day. I guess I'm supposed to just be grateful that I have a job. Of course, extra has cancels out the extra money, and I already have to ration my pain meds, so I'll have to learn to just suck it up and really pray I actually can drive that much without the numbness getting worse (and then not being able to drive at all).

I had already resigned to that and then this morning they had to call and make me happy and relieved for an hour so much that I realized that stress over that has been one of my biggest problems lately.

And my mom just says I should have been looking for a job here because she refuses to accept that being fired from one teaching jobs eliminates me from applying to most districts because they will not hire anyone who was ever non renewed for any reason. She thinks you just apply anyway and that it doesn't matter. I'm so sick of hearing that. It's a firm, very common HR policy.

Sorry. This is why I don't post in this thread. Good things just don't last.

I managed to do a very daunting whole training session without needing to stop for rests. My fitness seems to have improved massively in the space of the last couple of months, which is extra awesome as I've been experiencing pretty bad fatigue. I'm imagining what I could do if I wasn't fatigued.

Wait, what? Did the queen actually voice an opinion on this, Gulliver? Because I was pretty sure part of her continued parasitic existence was all about just arbitrarily signing off on stuff Parliament already agreed to and for all we know she could be a giant forking homophobe. I mean, sure, she could have a huge rainbow flag tattooed on her arse and be knocking back jello-shots on a float every Pride parade... but I doubt it.

I had the sweetest letter from a co-worker who is leaving, thanking me for everything I'd done for them (which honestly wasn't much).

My husband and I are going to be living together next month! In the same country! In the same apartment! In the same bedroom. Bow chicka bow-wow.

No, but seriously. Wilson got his visa in the mail today. I'm SO excited. He still needs to find someone to work on the farm and finish up some business, but he legally could come home this weekend if he wanted to. I tried to convince him that was the thing to do, but he's like, blah, blah, blah, responsibility, blah.

It's almost over!!

Is this best? It's closer to mixed/bittersweet than best: Grandma is now home under medicare-covered hospice. She's fallen twice in the past week, her face is bruised and bumped, she's weak, and yet --- talked to me for 40 minutes, about everyone's kindness and the color of the sun. (Well, after each fall she only said: I love you honey but can't talk. But after she had a day or two, then we talked for 40 minutes.)

Long story very simple:

I got an email from the EPA that says that I don't need approval from them for importing my motorbike if I can prove it's older than 25 years to the D.O.T.

It's such a relief that I understood the import stuff correctly (so far) and that I even was correct on which form I need to print.

I just hollered "HURRAY!" so loudly that you very likely heard me in Boston. Hurray!

ndpittman!!! I'm so glad y'all can be together again!!!!

my friend and I gave up on doing productive things and ate smooze while lying on my living room floor under the fan and watched the x files and "deadly dozen: australia"
definitely helped with the heat, even though it is still disgusting outside.

I know several teachers here who were not renewed but were able to eventually find full time work as a teacher in the same district even. Don't count yourself out.

Hugs LW! It sounds really hard, and I hope you can find a way to take care of your health and stress. Could it be that HR has it wrong, and you could ask your boss to clarify re 1/2 time?

NDP, what thrilling news! I squeaked superloud in excitment for you. YAY FOR WILSONSNUGGLES!!!!

The best part of today was my new client - a blind shi-tzu. She's so sweet! And I'm paid to sit in the AC and read while she snuggles on my lap. Best. Job. Ever.
