I started my day with a great workout, now I'm gonna spend the rest of it practicing on my guitar and outline the plot for my NaNoWriMo project!

NatureBoy wants to start Using Words. I asked him to tell me what he thinks they mean, but that, until then, he can use whatever words in whatever languages I don't already know. So he's calling me vriendin and kaereste (I like 'kaereste' the most) and other soft, silly words, and I find it very sweet.

Last day of my internship! Tomorrow I will graduate. This is also a sad day as I will miss the people I've been working with and of course, all the animals.

I've decided to post here about some of the many awesome things about being in Brazil, because I think I should focus more on those after a rough week or so in Manaus and posting too much in the worst things and challenging feminism threads :)

It's been fantastic going out into the forest, both by boat and on foot, and seeing wild animals and plants in their native habitats, especially knowing how much work is beginning to be done here to protect the forest.

The vast majority of people I've met have tried really hard to make sure I can eat good vegan food wherever I've been. We haven't always succeeded (I've eaten a LOT of plain rice, beans and salad!) but I've really appreciated the effort and sometimes I've been totally surprised by having a delicious meal when I really wasn't expecting to.

Despite what so many people told me before I left the UK, I've been able to stay completely vegan, with only the occasional minor mistake.

Lots of people I've met have told me that I'm the first vegan they've ever met, so it's been amazing to show people what veganism is and that you can be totally happy and healthy without eating animal-derived foods.

The fruit here is so tasty, flavoursome and delicious! If exporting it wasn't banned, I would totally fill up my rucksack with fruit to take home.

good to hear you are seeing some high points too. like any place, it's complicated. i miss it dreadfully!! load up on the fruit while you can. i was doing a translation the other day that discussed fruit and it was killing me.

The day is young, but ndp's man made it home and that's definitely good for some smiles. :)

Possibly on a permanent contract! I'm going to wait until I've seen the contract before I start gyrating with joy.

a dear old friend is a free man today after 13 years in federal prison. He still has halfway house + home confinement at his mom's to go through, and I won't be seeing him for quite a while still since he's in Minneapolis, but I am so so happy for him.

Someone at work said my carrot cake made them realise how bad shop-bought carrot cakes are.

I got a call that a garage wants to take my car off my hands if they can get it for free!

This is good news cause I was afraid I might have to pay a scrapyard to have them tow it off the office parking space.

(car didn't want to start monday, it's probably the fuel pump but I don't want to spend another 50 or 100 to make it running again.)

I bought myself a bunch of presents (two FANCY bras, a new ipod/radio player thang, other miscellaneous shellac) and went to lunch with a friend. nothing else is planned, but I'm hoping that a boy a think is cute will parlay our three day text conversation into a hangout invite.

Wow!! Thanks, guys!! That was definitely the best part of my day, too! I feel kind of bad, because I really do just keep following him around and touching him. We have futbol on, and things feel right again. This is everything I ever wanted.

Gulliver! I am so happy for you. I really hope this works out.

Happy Birthday, Norelle!

Imogen, eat as many types of bananas as you can! Someone (torque?) told me that before I went, and I'm so glad that I did.

Torque, I looked at the bananas in my kitchen today, and I felt like I should apologize to Wilson for these imposter bananas.

Excellent.

Sorry I don't know how to multiquote.

Happy birthday Norelle!

My best thing was picking up a new kitten from ACC who I now get to cuddle and fuss over.
