Good chat with my coach about Saturday's race. Usually she gives me a race plan for big races but this time she had me write up my race plan before we talked. She dialed in a few things further, but basically said I was right on track with how I laid out my pacing, heart rate and nutrition strategy for each leg. Good to know I'm learning this stuff!

Also, carbo loading. Yum.

Nerd alert, but the best thing about my day is THE NEW MOVIE BY JK ROLING SET IN THE POTTERVERSE. Based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This is probably the bright spot to my month, let alone day.

Dad just asked me if I want to add anything to his Amazon order, on him.

Um, YES.

So I had to make a very difficult decision as to which cookbook on my want list to get. It was a tricky decision, but given today is so cold and I think fall is officially setting in, I went for Fresh from the Vegan Slow Cooker.

I had an awesome bike ride and got to hang out with ameyfm! Then I saw a movie with my husband. It's kind of been a great day aside from some work stuff that has me stressed (again).

I actually just re-made a facebook account. I canceled mine a few years ago, and was really happy about it. I wasted so much time on it, and there was so much crepe that was bringing me down. But now i'm in clubs at school, and that's apparently the only way college kids know how to communicate. I got left out of a lot of stuff because they don't send out e-mails.

The best thing about today is that Carlito started eating and drinking again and Leela and I had Tofurky pizza and Divvies chocolate chip brownies. But really the best thing is that its finally over.

Yes! That was so wonderful!
C&p spontaneously came by for a visit, and we chatted and had coffee. I made a babka for my friend, and C&s's company inspired me to go with the flow even though I had no yogurt and only half the yeast and I burnt some of the chocolate... And in the end it came out great! Also I got to pick up my bike after a couple days in the shop, and I went to a great yoga class with my teacher. Today was good!

Hooray for Carlito eating and drinking! This is great news. I hope you and Leela enjoyed pizza and brownies, you've earned a good easy comfort meal Tofulish. :)

We have plates that aren't plastic anymore! When Brian was in flight school, he went to Target and bought a set of college student dishes that was eight platic plates, bowls, and glasses and that's what we've been using because I told him I didn't see the point in buying 'real' dishes if I didn't like them and they weren't nice, when we could just keep using the plastic ones. We got a Bergner's $50 off a purchase of $100 card in the mail, so we took that in where they were having a big housewares sale anyway and got four Fiestaware place settings, and they each came with a free small cereal bowl. I feel slightly more adult now.

Good luck, simply_love!

Torque, don't let those ornery mustards bite you! Don't present them with fingers or other nice looking opportunities, watch their pupils and head feathers. Most parrots will slightly draw back their head feathers before biting. There is almost always a signal, but it does take experience to get good at reading parrot behavior. Molly bit me today but I ignored the warning sign and knew I was going to get bitten right before it happened. She is impossible since I went back to work. Four very nasty bites this week, which is more than the entire years I've had her. I no longer trust her on my shoulder. Good on you for helping them. Rescue parrots have usually had such a hard time and they need so much interaction and affection and they are often not very lovable as a result. A great book is My Parrot, My Friend, though perhaps there are better parrot psychology books out now. It helped us a great deal when we first brought home our macaw. If allowed, you could always bake up some healthy birdie bread mini muffins and start a subtle bribery campaign. Some parrots are very food motivated!

MBM, new dishes are great. When I first moved out, I scrounged around the military store after they have stuff like the Villeroy and Boch events. They always had the low quantity pieces super cheap (like plastic dish cheap!) Growing up, we always had Waterford from my parents' wedding as they never believed I. Storing nice things away. If I ever have a dinner party, I'll be in trouble though since nothing remotely matches.

I'm just using Target plastic with a parrot on them now because I'm too unstable to make it downstairs with a nice (or heavy) dish.

Thanks for the advice!!
they are actually super awesome birds, and I feel so lucky I can work with them. There has only been one large-bird bite (from a cockatoo i found out later bites everyone, and i shouldn't have been sucked in by her big puppy dog eyes and her "pet-me" behavior; it seems it was some kind of record that she took 5 minutes of handling before biting me). The macaws I usually try not to get within beak range unless I know I can trust them- those beaks are too big to take chances with. We have a hyacinth macaw that supposedly broke someone's arm biting them (although I don't get the logistics of that, frankly).

Almost all of these birds are total end-of-the-road birds, whose stories are enough to make you cry. birds that spent 5 years in cat carriers, birds that were "set free" after owners decided they couldn't handle a macaw (...) and were caught by first responders after big chases in city streets, plucked by kids in the family, etc etc. When they get adopted out it's fantastic, many of them come in in such bad shape but can find forever homes.

Most of what I do is just feeding and watering (over 100 birds) so most of the birds like me. Except for the chattering, black, and rainbow lories, who are mostly aggressive and I have to reach into their cages to feed them, and they usually bite me as I'm doing that. Little mustards.
There is, however, a very affectionate dusky lori, who is so beautiful and really sweet that she makes up for her little buddies. I'll have to find some of my pics.

Wow, that's rare for a hyacinth to be aggressive. They are usually the sweetest and most docile of birds.

he is one of the saddest to me: captured in the wild, supposedly. very old. poor mustard. i've seen some of these birds in the wild and it makes me so very sad to think of them being captured and stuffed in a suitcase (or worse) to become some person's unrealistic expectation, only to be abused, abandoned, etc.
i'm having a hard time with photos today, but these two are some of my favorites- the Turtles, usually with a clutch of eggs, super aggressive, but even despite their homocidal tendencies, awesome birds. Mr Turtle is bald, and he plucked Mrs Turtle. They are so clever and fast. And you can bet I would not put my hand near that cage for love nor money.

I finished the race that I had to DNF last year due to a blown tire. Not the race I was hoping to have, but I beat my sister's time from last year by 22 minutes, so I currently have the half-Iron PR between the two of us.

Bonus snuggles from my dude. (He's here doing a family thing, and was supposed to stay the night with them last night, but instead surprised me by coming home around midnight for another half-day of snuggles.)
