Really good day. I finished building my bed frame! So proud of that. Then I went to Ikea and got a MATTRESS! WUT?! Like a real adult person, I now have not only a bed frame but also a mattress to go on top! Then I had drinks with my beau and it was so lovely, and he kept telling me how much he was into me. Really gushing it out there for me. :) Eeeeeep. Guiz I think this one is a keeper.

My friends came up from Baltimore (all the way to Schenectady! No one comes here ever.) We went to see Brand New and the show was amazing. And we went to TCBY first.

I really like my new room. I was so worried I'd hate it because... well, there's a long list actually: it's a basement room, the hallway up to it smells like a really nasty cat litterbox and there's nothing I can do about it unless I want to clean someone else's cat's litterbox, the housemates/homeowners have that decorative style of creepy doll parts in jars and styrofoam heads with shiitake glued to it... this style is probably 100% the opposite of mine, heh.

But anyways! I like the housemates a lot, regardless, and they've been super accommodating, I have garage space to build and saw and shiitake, which is awesome. It's also the first time I've lived in a place as just a mere housemate... in my last place it was basically like I was the homeowner, I took care of everything bills/logistically, I did all the yard work, all the furniture/kitchen stuff/decorations/electronics in all the common spaces were mine, etc... Well, now, it's just me, Ginny (my dog) and my room. It feels so freeing. And the room has this weird nook cut into it, wide enough BARELY for a full size mattress. So my bed is basically tucked into this little enclave, it's SO cozy having walls all around the bed like this.

so true!

Today, we went out kayaking in the bay, and we had the most amazing experience! There was a giant humpback whale swimming all around our kayaks, and then he stuck his massive head up out of the water about 10 feet from our kayaks and just stayed there and looked at us for what seemed like about 30 seconds or so. Then, he put his head under water and stayed right there. He kept swimming all around and it was amazing. Right now, the bay is full of tiny fish (anchovies, I think), so all the animals are freaking out. There were sea lions and sea birds and harbor seals all around us too. It was great.

met my colleague's daughter. she is 13, arrived from central china last week, knows very little english and is now enrolled in public school (where the language of instruction is dutch, which her mother = my colleague doesn't speak), so her head is swimming in languages and culture shock. she came here for lunch with her mom, and to have a bit of chinese time. she is so cute! and so sweet! and she and her mom are so clearly so happy to be here together.

(torque, it reminded me of you and your daughter a bit, how these ladies needed a bit of geographic and family change.)

Actually, equally best thing was finally deciding that I am too tired and busy to re-learn how to take apart my bike and fix the things that need fixing (alas! I really love that), so the bike shop down the street from work is doing it for me, which means that I will get to go on awesome bike-ventures this weekend, hooray!

so cool, lutin!

i spent a lot of quality cockatoo time today, and got a very skittish bird back into his cage without getting bitten. it took me about 15 minutes, and he kept running his beak down my fingers and wrist and looking at me like a psycho killer, but i didn't flinch and didn't let him bite me, and it was all good. finally he decided he trusted me and hopped on my arm, and off he went. victory!!

ETA: also, i had a lot of good conversation time with one of the other volunteers today. she is a really cool young lady and such a breath of fresh air compared with the family dramaz, which have been getting progressively worse lately. but also super good, she told me that the school allows me to take the kid out of school 3 times during the year for any reason i choose, multiple days at a time (more on this in another thread). i am considering taking her out of school the week that my mother and sister go away, and just spending the whole damn week together in NY and Boston.

there was an open post in my department at work and one of the internal people who interviewed for it did not get it ... I am SO relieved ... every day at getting the day started natter talk she often drifts into my office (which I share with one other person) talking about how much sex she and her husband have (TMI!) and how he loves her as she is ... 5'6 ... 20 stone ...
she is 59 years old ... she then leaves to return to where she works ...

I learned a new technique tonight for transferring images. In addition to making my own gesso. I am already to art all the things!

But mostly just an art journal.

My cats let me sleep in until 9am! They usually don't let me sleep past 6:30am, so that's a big change!

I get being relieved if you don't like someone, but can we not judge people on having confidence just because you perceive them as fat?

Thank you. I was trying to formulate how to say that exact thing, but as usual you've said it better :)

Yes, thank you for saying that. Also, I don't think there's any reason to point out her age.

All this. Her age and weight aren't relevant.
