I am happy NatureBoy and I had this 12-day long experiment in domesticity, which 94% worked. I am sorry to loose his snuggles (and etc.) as of tomorrow night, but stoked to have my own rockingly weird up-at-5am-and-kicking-it schedule, including lots of salads, foresting on my own (surprise! I miss that) and weird writing times of my choice. The best? is that on the way home, I get a a trip to the Veg Butcher and my favorite Ethiopian place in A'dam. Also, it feels like our relationship is "more relationship-y" now, which is awesome. Life = the cat's pyjamas, for sure, for sure.

I just had a really nice moment with my ex where we agreed we'd set the bar quite high for one another and that everyone we date seems like a dribbling moron.

made all sorts of treats for the old folks (gram and grampa, who are kind of shakey and lonely) and took them out for lunch. the diner even had a veggie burger, amazingly. they were thrilled to get out.

also finally went out running (after what i am starting to realize what might have been flu a few weeks ago, it took soooo long to get over...) today, nice to see that all my parts still work, and running in the fall is so nice. now to build my distance back up....

Dudes, I wasted a fork lot of time today, and still managed to write about 1000 words of seriously academic (seriously theoretical) text.

Torque: hooray for time with grandparents!

I am in Germany with my sweetheart (feline fur beast!), my host is (coincidentally) vegan, the apartment is next to a vegetarian restaurant.

the cat has settled in already after a couple of hours of hiding. now she's purring up a storm on my chest as I lay in bed. ahhhh!

Yay for kitties and veg restaurants!

I found curry in the back of my freezer that heated up beautifully and I'm now eating it with noodles for dinner. Spaghetti is a bit odd with noodles, but it am so excited to have found real home cooked food in my freezer! No can of beans for me tonight, no sirree!

I just made my first ever batch of jam! I'm so excited, not least because it's made from pears and apples grown in my parents' and my aunt's gardens! I want to eat it now, but it's 1am, the jam's still warm in the jars and I need to go to sleep.

The cafe in the Arts Building on campus has a vegan caesar salad! And it's actually really good! Made with Parma cheese, local tomatoes and lettuce, and croutons. Plus they have two types of soy milk! I like to bring my lunch because it's so much cheaper, but it is great to know that if i don't have time to make anything there's a good, convenient vegan option.

This was a few days ago, but I totally forgot to post it.

My uncle ran the Chicago Marathon on Sunday. I woke up early and rode downtown to meet his family and got to meet his grandson for the first time! He's super cute, with these giant cheeks that are out-of-control adorable. He was so well-tempered, despite all the noise and craziness of the marathon. And he totally loved me. It was the perfect amount of baby time before I had to go to work. I'm so ready to be an aunt (but not a mom). Oh, and my uncle's time was just under 4 hours, which seems incredibly impressive to me.

I found a Geiger counter and radioactive minerals at school. And my rigged together black light worked and some of my minerals fluoresced.

I just made the BEST waffles. They were simultaneously light and fluffy and crispy and I am so looking forward to eating them the next couple of days. It's the little things, okay?

Any day with waffles in it can't be that bad. I believe that in my heart of hearts.

Best thing today: I did a volunteer day thing at work and made blankets for kids. It was... moving in a way I didn't expect. And I liked that.

I got through my lab meeting without crying, though just barely.

Also I'm going to make pho for dinner.

I got a job! I will be a secretary (very part time, which is perfect) for a lawyer. It is just 2 days a week and means I can use that money to support my other business. It is a really great situation.
