I just found out I don't have to work Christmas Eve. We need a skeleton staff in for half the day but because I live so far away (its 2 trains into work and 2 trains home) my colleagues have all said they are happy for me to be one of the two who get to be on leave. That's going to make things so much easier

A bad day at work, but it ended at an Indian restaurant and I'm feeling okay. It's going to be alright.

My friends' baby was born today! I am so happy for them. They wanted this baby so bad for so long and now they are parents and they are so happy and I can't believe how happy I am for them!!!!

Another GED student passed his math and writing! He just has the reading test now.

I'm so proud for them (I sort of picture them as my flock because my main function is to guide through everything they need) and so, so happy for them as they are finishing up. It's been such a long road for a few of them, but they have all worked hard and have dealt with all sorts of struggles.

I'm sad to see some of my favorites move on and leave my class (hell, they are all my favorites!), so it's a little bittersweet.

I mostly feel frivolous and useless, but with the GED classes, I always feel that I'm doing a good thing and I'm so glad that I can be a part of helping the students achieve and then move on to accomplish some of their life goals.

Lavawich, that is so nice to hear that you get to see the positive outcomes of your work with the GED students! Especially because it sounds like a lot of times your work with your high school students can be so frustrating and discouraging. Yay for helping people work toward and reach goals!

On the subject of finances, I was kind of stressing out this morning because I felt like we were cutting this month a little close on some bills, and even though we have enough to cover everything I didn't like how little we had leftover. And then I remembered our other account - the one I've been squirreling money into that we don't touch. The one with $3000 in it.

Man, THAT is a good feeling.

Thanks! I'm so excited! My husband and I are finally in a really good financial place, and we're even starting to build up savings! It's such a great feeling.

Since I just went on a rant rampage in the worst things thread I want to make sure I post in here too. Well, for one thing, I found out today that something AMAZING (to do with the musical I was in) that was casually discussed a couple weeks ago is ACTUALLY FOR REALZ HAPPENING. I think I can't post specifics right now... but ohhhhhh man y'all, when I can officially spill the beans I definitely will.

(funny thing is, this happening is kinda one other thing I was going to add i my 'worst things' post, only because it was bringing up some additional 'ahhh things I have to do!' feelings, but really, it's so great, there's no way I can for a second complain even if it does mean a more stressful schedule)

Gorgeous storm is about to start. It is so amazing (and amazingly strong!) that I'm not even sad that it meant no bike ride around the lake today. Also, I did a thing on a project which I've been putting off and putting off; 2 awesome people are helping me with another project; and I might still actually make 3-4 submitted articles by Christmas time.

Just a few days ago I posted in the worst things-thread about how my school project was killing me, that I was in desperate need of a vacation, that my volunteer project was probably going to shut down and that I was feeling winter depressed as hell.

Well, yesterday I made really great progress with my project - I made a simple model and started working in illustrator and I did pretty well, considering I am a computer program noob. And my teacher seemed to like my project and the progress I've made - and I feel really good about it too. I am excited to get my model cut and finished and to try to draw the experiences.

AND today a big storm is coming, so we've been warned to stay indoors, which means I get to stay home all day and work on apartment stuff and read instead, which are my favorite hobbies :) And the volunteer project had a breakthrough, so for now it's staying active.

Yay!

We got the same storm advice smoothie (maybe also the same storm?). HOORAY staying inside and doing cozy things. I'm happy you feel good about your project again! I'd love to see a picture of your model when it's done.

The storm will hit Hamburg tonight, and I work on the other side of the Elbe. The ferry terminals are expected to be flooded, so I have a perfect excuse to leave home early and not go out tomorrow.

I had some fun hunting down discount toys on amazon for toys for tots. A couple of the toys arrived today and they are more awesome than I expected.

Made a bunch of technical diagrams for stuff I'm working on (including stuff I haven't wanted to be working on), added more than 2000 words to the manuscript of a project I hate, and read an article. It is definitely dinner time. I'm also pretty sure I get to reward myself with the rest of tonight off.

This was yesterday but...so I'm going on a cruise (leaving Saturday) next week and a friend of mine knows I have a certain amount of anxiety about dressing more formally than I'm used to for dinners during the cruise and that I really have nothing suitable in my closet because I'm just no kind of dress-up gal so anyway, Purolator came to my door yesterday with a package for me containing three exquisitely lovely tops for me to wear! I was seriously flabbergasted when I opened the package with how gorgeous everything she sent me was. Two are like these beautiful and tastefully glittery tank tops with matching jackets (super fancy and clearly came from some lovely boutique--one in deep purple and the other black) for formal wear (would only require me to come up with a pair of plain black dress pants to wear both with) and a third top which is this lovely sleeveless gold crinkly flattering material that I could wear to a more casual event--it could be dressed up or down--depending on whether worn with jeans or dress pants. I was so overcome with her thoughtfulness, I cried. People are so lovely sometimes!!! Now I feel confident about the clothes I have for my trip!

I won a contest on Tofurky's Facebook page! it was the favorite way to cook your Tofurky.

They liked mine best and I won :) yay! I get a free Tofurky Feast!

But I like the fact that they liked mine best, even more than the prize.
