Fred has this terrible, awful, no good, very bad job as the phone room manager for a small chain of restaurants. He works the worst hours (5pm-1am is pretty typical) for this truly abhorrent family. But not for long! Today, he got a call back from one of the interviews he went on last week. They loved him and are super excited to have him become their new IT support specialist! It's 9-5, full benefits and about 10K more per year than he's making now. He starts in the middle of January. I'm so freaking excited for him! We can actually hang out at night! There will be shows and dinners out and at home and fun couch times and out-of-the-house adventures! We can have a life like a real couple! And move into a (slightly) nicer place! And I can maybe start going to bed earlier because I won't feel like I have to stay up just to get a few sleepy moments with him before I go to bed! This is the best news!

Yay Kara Kara. Congrats to Fred.

Molly was being a brat and refused to come downstairs with me, so I grabbed the macaw and made him come visit my evil downstairs lair. We are having a blast. It feels weird to have a macaw trying to snuggle on my shoulder though--he is too big! He settled down and is doing his happy, relaxed beak sharpening grinding thing, and purring. I don't spend enough time with him.

I made my own piecrust for the first time since I was a child making apple pie with my gammy. I had leftovers and made them into an apple handpie and ate it for dinner and it was DIVINE!

Even though I have to work a half day today and it sucks, a coworker brought in LOLA! Lola is a very cute English Bulldog and I can hear her snoring from here. She's my little Christmas ham!

i had a good day today. i worked, but i went to the italian (super not vegan) bakery down the block from my house before work and bought some cookie gift baskets, 1 to give to the nurses and the other to hand out to the residents on my unit. i am a bad dietitian giving out cookies! but i just got super into the christmas spirit or something. gave my nurse manager a plant and brought all the hats i'd been crocheting to the recreation therapists to use as christmas bingo prizes. i ended up having to work late because i spent too long giving out cookies and couldn't finish my work in time, but it was worth it. now i have the rest of the week off and most of next week, too!

erika, that bulldog is SOOOO FLIPPING CUTE! i nearly died.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve! Silly, boring birds, sat and stared at us, except when getting walnut tart nibbles. Maybe we can rent a dog for next year. Our springer spaniel loved Christmas and always had more joyous fun than any of us.

We made leek and bean cassoulet (we always make soup for Christmas Eve) and opened presents. I feel I lagged in the gift department--it's so hard to find things people want and/or need, but I got my parents some British TV show DVDs and other not exciting stuff. They got me an iphone Bluetooth stereo for my (new to me) car and set up installation for next week. I'm so excited about that since I spend 3-4 hrs a day commuting and the tape adapter things are so frustrating.

My aunt sent me a bunch of Diptyque soaps (Ombré dans l'Eau is my favorite) and some Geurlain lip glosses that she bought back in the spring before I told her about the testing/china situation. Plus, she gave me another of her vintage Hermes scarves (I don't mind 30 your silk, especially with sentimental attachment). This one is red with a horse pattern. Someday I'll learn how to actually wear them. I like having things that somebody I love has already loved themselves (my favorite necklace is a Celtic cross that my mom's mother gave her). She has finished the bulk of her cancer treatments, so we are now hoping for the best.

Tomorrow we are making enchiladas, cranberry margaritas, and watching Iron Man movies.

It's way too early yet, but it's Christmas! And I'm eating hot buttered blueberry 'scones.' That I made myself! From a can! :)

Tell me more. Do they have stuffing and cranberry sauce? Cause that's a tradition I could get behind.

Well, his specific tradition is having them for breakfast, so on them he puts tofu scramble, sausage, cashew cheese, salsa, and other standard nacho toppings. His family always has them with Bud Light. I did all that, but no Bud Light.

We had a lovely enchilada dinner. The IDI enchiladas are amazing (poor dad missed out: he had enchiladas made from a box since we spent all day making our nice vegan enchiladas.)

Molly and the macaw ate walnut tarts. The cockatiel ate pieces of tortilla and potato that we set aside for her. She doesn't like sweets; she likes carbs.

Dad told funny stories and we had frozen margaritas. I've now converted them into using nicer tequilla. Suddenly, my wee bottle of Patron silver doesn't have good survival odds. I used a Martha Stewart recipe and made simple syrup. I think we'll have a new Mexican food, margaritas, and movie Christmas tradition.

Still having a nice night! Waiting to recover from gluttony to make a new batch of margaritas and watch the Iron Man trilogy. I love the first movie and think my parents will too. Second was so-so, but have high hopes for the third. At any rate, what can go wrong with margaritas and MDJ?

I also made rum raising pudding from Chloe's Vegan desserts. I spiked it with some added Cointreaua d may not have measured out the rum very carefully. My dad tasted it yesterday and loved it. Rice pudding is one of his favorites.

Hah. It sounds like we booze it up around here, but that's pretty much a once a year deal for us.

My unicorn-sweetheart and I did stockings for each other, and not only were there some amazing things in there, like things she crafted and bananagrams, there was also a PANDA WITH COOKIE DINO PIRATE XMAS ORNAMENT. Dudes she knows nothing about the PPK! It was random happenstance magic!

Everything about today!

Trevor and I exchanged gifts and he got me some great things. New PJs, jeans, the Morrissey biography, the Humans of New York book, a day planner, Lush stuff, fun socks, a beautiful necklace pendant, leggings, and some other stuff. Jeans! My man bought me jeans. He was pretty upset when we went into the Levi's in Times Square and they didn't have anything in my size; he was angry and kept saying that it "wasn't right". So he took my measurements and got me jeans! What a guy.

We had a brilliant little breakfast at home with homemade cinnamon buns and a "toast bar" with all my homemade jams and fresh biscuits, plus fruit salad and the like. My family came over and it wasn't that bad and everyone liked everything. My brother loved his gifts and he got us a big gift box full of Lush stuff to share.

Then we had a carb induced nap.

Then we went to my in-laws and had a taco bar dinner and everyone was in good spirits and Trevor's 93-year-old world traveler grandma was funny and witty (and not just for an old lady, but more than most people I know) and it was nice.
