I got a Windows phone and am not totally happy with it. Sadly I'm in a 24 months contract.

It's been a great day! Some friends traveled up from Basingstoke to play a gig last night and I got to do some backup vocals. They invited us out for lunch today which was lovely (Annie's burgers!) and then we played a gig tonight in Derby. We've been wanting to perform a cover of Sabotage for a while and did it for the first time tonight. It went down really well and people who've seen us a few times have said that it was one of our best performances yet.

I thought it would be wonderful, the phone itself was responsive and nice etc but the actual OS was just annoying. It felt like I didn't have any control over it, I hope your contract ends soon.

Glad to hear you had such a fab day!

I'm feeling better and that plus a whole load of pain-eze gel for my constant joint pain means that I now have clean sheets, clean floors, a clean kitchen and banana bread! I also got proper work done so I feel less stressed about the huge vegan festival I have a stall at this weekend. And I even ate some fruit! And I contributed a foreword for a vegan zine about my city. An overall winner of a day!

Best/worst. Got sent home from work when I got there because the unit I work on doesn't need me tonight. So good that I'm not working tonight but bad because I'll have to make it up later this week.

This makes me so happy to hear!!!

Best thing about my day thus far was prolly the guy sitting on front of me on the bus this morning who had Andy Warhol hair. He looked endearingly like an aged moppet.

Precious time at home with your partner is the best!

I have been working pretty much every day for the past few weeks (I had one unexpected day off last weekend when my shift at one gig got cancelled literally just as I was walking out the door) and too many of those days have been leaving the house before 7 am and not being done for the day until 11 pm or even later.

So, having only a half day of work yesterday afternoon meant getting to go have brunch with my partner at our regular brunch joint (I had the seitan reuben!) before I went to work, and this morning I get to be home with my partner too before we both head off to separate things, and after laying in bed together for a long time he made me coffee and brought me toast toppings and did the dishes while one of the cats sat on my lap and everything was awesome.

Oh yeah, the other best thing about my day so far:

I am working on a public art piece for a local children's museum, focusing on native Midwest insects. I've been trying to decide on a species. So last night, I sent an email to my favorite entomologist/biologist, whose lecture on sustainability and the importance of native plants in order to create a sustainable local food web I have watched several times, telling him about my project and asking if he has suggestions for a Midwest native insect species that also meets some other criteria I would like to include, and he wrote me back this morning! I hope he got a kick out of an artist writing to him and being like, "I love your work, please give input for my art project."

A year ago I met and hit it off with a headhunter for CEOs. Great contact, right? But at the time I wasn't in the market for a job. But I put in for separation a couple months ago, and he e-mailed me out of the blue a week later! He is friends with the head of the American Museum Assoc and my dream is to work in a museum. So he's going to introduce us!!! I am psyched. I will take any help and advice I can get, and this really came out of the blue. Maybe everything really will be okay.

I'm not a morning person. I'm definitely not a Monday morning person. But this morning I just felt energized and in a great mood. Weird, but good.

Invictus, that is so exciting! Hopefully something comes of it for you.

I'm at work in Toronto today and I left the office for a few minutes to deposit a cheque. I got outside in the sun and instantly heard this music that sounded like it was coming from everywhere - it just took over the atmosphere. Then I saw the guy across the street holding what I can only describe as an electric harp (but it wasn't a harp and I'm sure it has a real name), so I dropped $3 in his bowl and he gave me a huge smile. I walked away as a flock of pigeons took off from the library roof and flew over me.

The whole thing was lovely and serene and surreal. It may only be lunch time but I'm sure that will e the best thing about my day today.

I've been freaking out about post-PhD jobs (I finish about a year from now) and my cousin just put me in touch with the scientist recruiter at Google. Hooray family!

I went to the dentist for the first time in years this morning. I was quite sure that I had cavities, but I don't! Yippee!
