Seeing my grandma! Today is her 93rd birthday, and I think she's had a good one.

Today was my 8th veganniversary and the anniversary of the day we brought all of the cats home, 19, 12, and 12 years ago (total coincidence). I like statistics.

I set off a ton of fireworks and helped put together a nice care package for the mom and child who have to sleep on the playground near my house.

Went to visit my Pap-Pap in the hospital today, and he was much better today. Yesterday his pain medication was making him confused and angry. He's not a very good patient, but he seemed less frustrated today. He seems to be healing physically pretty well, too. At least he has an appetite! (He was diagnosed with rectal cancer and after a round of chemo and radiation, he had part of his bowel removed.) Not sure of the official prognosis, but today made me feel much more hopeful that he'll be back to his old self again.

My best friend for life (we met the first day of kindergarten) is back in town after graduating college. We're finally, finally hanging out Monday. I miss her so much. We've grown up so differently, but I truly feel like she is a sister. A sister who is very conservative and Christian, but a woman who knows me inside and out without even thinking about it. We read each other instinctively and will always be there and love each other. I'm so excited to see her.

I've made a start with uploading pictures from my U.S.A. trip and I can't describe my feelings but this one gave me shivers down my spine and tears in my eyes.

That is a gorgeous photo!

I came home from my mom's with all the linens she and my grandmother had embroidered or cross stitched. And one of them had been worked on by my grandmother, my mom and now me!

We were finally able to convince my grandma to go to the hospital today. She kept saying she thought she was having a small stroke, but then saying she didn't want to go. She is in excellent spirits. No prognosis yet, but she seems really good besides a bit of droopiness in her face. She's already making plans for things she needs to get done once she's out of the hospital. I'm feeling really hopefully she'll be back to it soon.

Quoting the picture, because I love that mountain.

YES! I am so happy you drove past Shasta, Veg_Eric. It is one of the most incredible places I know. I'm happy this year's travels took you there!

All of yesterday was great! Morning snuggles, yoga in the garden, NatureBoy came home for lunch and we ate in the sun, I did actual work for a couple of hours, he came home and we snuggled more and ate dinner together in his still-sunny-garden, and then I talked him into an evening walk on the beach. He ended up having to kite (there was almost no wind and I didn't really understand how his low wind kite worked), but that left me free to jump and splash in the waves! What a good place.

Love that picture, vegeric. I am not sure I could keep my eyes on the road if that was in front of me.

My 87-y.o. uncle had a heart attack ten days ago and today is being transported up here (capital city, 2 hours from home hospital) to have stents put in. His wife died a few years ago so I am glad it is the summer when more of us are around to visit him and help out. He'll be in and out in a few hours, shipped back home the same day "like an assembly line" his sister, my aunt, said.

Good thing because: He's alive, he's in good spirits, and with the stents he will probably be feeling so much better. He's been so healthy all his life, I hope he lives to 100 at least.

I'm so glad to hear this! My grandma plans to live to 100, too. I'm hoping when I visit today she'll still be in good spirits.

Narwhal! Baby hippo! That is too flippin' cute. Amandabear has so many talents!!

My best thing is that I just learned my wee grandma didn't have a stroke but has Bell's Palsy, and she'll get better from it! Plus she's still in awesome spirits. I told her to give the palsy back to Bell, and she told me she was going to wrap it up and put it in the mail. She was one of my primary guardians when I was young, and she still makes me feel like her little girl, which is maybe the best feeling. She's been telling everyone that I'm her baby.
