eee! last month we got stuck on the runway on jetblue for 7 hours! it was really bad. But they gave us a credit for our round trip flight, so I just used it to book tickets to Orlando so we can go to Universal in September (aka Harry Potter world!)

So, that conference I whined endlessly about a while back? I'm going to get paid over $400 for going. Plus even though I drove myself, they said there was room in the budget to give me mileage.

The guy who cleans our kegs lines was so awesome today. He is such a cool dude--he has our (fired as of the first of August) rep company yelling at him, he has me calling him 39 times a day, he has bar owners giving him grief for us not being able to keep up, and I've just hired his ex-girlfriend as my marketing assistant, and yet he takes it all in stride and remains down to earth, understanding, and practical. I am having problems with coworkers, but his amicable visit today was a HUGE pick-me-up for both myself and my partner.

I had a stellar chiropractor visit. So much cracking!

LW--that's awesome! And driving yourself usually means mileage reimbursement I think? Either way--good for you!

Vijita, I'm so glad to hear that. I've been thinking about your work situation and hoping you find some peace there. I can't imagine anyone not being enamored with you, but I know I've started out randomly disliking people (and then being proven wrong), so maybe it's one of those weird things? I hope you don't let it drain on you too much. You're an absolute gem!

ETA: Two best things for me, actually! I made a lot of progress toward filing for divorce! Technically we just need Wilson to do his financial statement, sign and notarize, and hand it in and wait. While there's something about it that makes me feel sad, it's also very much a relief and liberating.

So glad to hear so much good news. Yay for all of yez!

Today's best thing involved saving a colleague from an impossible deadline, and none of our other colleagues would step up to help him because it was a terribly complicated thing (legal briefs, we all pretend to be busy when there's legal stuff, even if we're starving). But he's saved my skin, and would do the same if I asked him, so I found two hours to give him.
The cherry on top: I would have done it for free or next to nothing, since he's not only a colleague but also a friend. imagine my shock when i found out after delivering that the job paid more, for two hours of my time, than what I would normally make in full day- or two.

Nice, torque! Goodness is its own reward, but money makes a pretty nice reward too, hey?

Yay for getting divorce over with--I know people who have spent forever on that shiitake! I'm happy you guys managed to end things with so much maturity.

Thank you for your very very sweet words. It's okay--I have to learn to be okay with criticism no matter how petty or ill-directed it is.

I love reading everyone's best things! Yay!

LW - I am so glad you're being compensated and that it wasn't a total waste of your time!
And torque - FINALLY some good karma payoff that you so richly deserve!

Mine is really weird and sounds like it would be a bad thing at first: I just found out that the people who own the house we've been renting for the last three years are filing for bankruptcy, and the house will be foreclosed on. Nothing is certain yet, but they called the property management company to inform them, which they wouldn't have done if they weren't Very Serious about it. Thankfully, the owner of the company is our personal friend, so he gave us a heads-up two days before rent was due that we shouldn't pay this month.

Because the bankruptcy will take time before the bank reclaims the house, and because once they do they have to give us 30 days to vacate according to state law, we could potentially be living here for a few MONTHS rent-free. That is $1100 a month that we can be putting into savings toward the move we've been hoping to make this year anyway. It is a crazy set of circumstances that have fallen into place, but it's potentially very good for us.

I'm really happy to not have the stress of a new unfamiliar job with unfamiliar people right now. Also, the bio teachers are all really nice so I know they will be easy and fun to work with. I've heard as much from them too about their collaboration style.

I'm going to take statements at face value and assume that they genuinely want me back. I'm also pretty sure that the job I interviewed for calling references may have spurred the call today.

Yeah, big congrats LW! Poopie, what incredible circumstances. Rad that it might actually end up helping you afford the move.

My medical (and dental and vision) insurance from my new job kicked in today. Woohoo! Being without health insurance is scary, even for someone like me who's really never been seriously ill or injured.
