I had to get my blood tested, which I hate with the type of hate that most people reserve for root canal treatments or other dentist-related horrors. I have nearly fainted before before and during the withdrawal of blood, so I always ask if there can be a second person present to distract me, to minimise the risk of fainting. Turns out, the two nurses taking my blood were hilarious. Cracking jokes, distracting me. So sweet.

Also, my doctor said: since you're having your blood tested tested anyway, and you hate having blood taken, let's just use the opportunity and toss some vitamin stuff in for good measure. She's very open and enthusiastic about my veganism, and I'm happy to have a just-to-be-sure checkup. So, the nurses saw all the vitamin stuff listed and since I mentioned my veganism, inquired really sweetly with tons of questions about veganism they always wanted but never could ask someone. They just seemed so positively surprised to talk to someone who's a friendly, happy vegan. (Vegans are rare, where I live, and there's this stereotype about them all being bedreadlocked anarchist crusties.)

These women were the best. I could not have imagined that having my blood tested would be this fun. :)

Joshua, that is so bizarre and I love it!

Paloma, that's great! I've had a nurse like that once or twice and they really make such a difference.

My best thing is that tonight I am getting my hurrs did. It has been far, far too long since I've had my hair cut, and I REALLY need it. I am very excited. If I keep the schedule that I've planned for myself, I will then be able to pretty much go straight to bed upon getting home (around 9PM), which is something I need SO BADLY. I've been getting about four hours of sleep a night for way, way too long now.

Oh, I love having my hair done too. You always feel like a new person when you walk out the door after. Enjoy it, Darth !

So my Dad didn't quit his job in CO like he told everyone he was going to. He's going back there next week to do office related work, and I get to visit him (ok, I get to go and research new places to live without having to shell out for a hotel). Yay me!

Hairspray (the 2007 version) is on the teevee right now! I am SO in love with this version. The first time I saw it, I hated John Travolta's character and accent (probably just bc it wasn't Harvey Fierstein's). Each time I've seen it he's grown on me, and now I'm obsessed. "I left my iron on." :) makes me smiley. And Queen Latifah is so perfect. And I have the biggest crush on Elijah Kelley!

I just got hired to work in a cooking collective! It`s like a 6-month course that makes me go over all the basics with various chefs (we cook for for various organizations and there`s a bunch of us) but I get paid too! I`m sooooo happy!!

I got paid and ordered some second hand DVDs from Ebay - Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Last Horror Show, Man Bites Dog and Feed (I'm on another serial killer kick having seen Cary Elwes brilliantly cast as Ted Bundy in The Riverman). I'd sorta like to see Appropriate Adult too but my attention span is so very short at times.

Got the job at the music store! And they're willing to work a bit to accommodate me being in school. So I just emailed my advisor and told her my schedule so everything is working out! I'll be up really freaking early every day, and get off during rush hour, but WHO CARES??? Employed and in school!

This sounds amazing. Is it a catering thing or more of a NGO/goodwill thing?

I finally swallowed my pride and told my parents that I was broke beyond belief, couldn't pay my bills and needed their help - I was going to ask for $100 or so, just to tide me over until I find a housemate - but my dad just emailed back to say that he was putting $500 in my account, no strings attached. I'm so relieved and grateful. I just went out and bought actual fruit and vegetables, because I can afford it!

I was told that I can't be old enough to have an 18 year old. It felt amazing!

I watched Empire Records for the first time in years. I forgot how much I love that movie. Well, not quite. I knew I loved it, but it's been a long damn time since I watched it a million times in high school.

Side note: AJ, aka Johnny Whitworth, is apparently on one of the CSIs now. Dude has aged well. Very well. Very, very well.

Finding out that a PPKer is actually someone I know in real life from a totally different context! We've been interacting anonymously on the boards without either of us having any clue until today. What are the chances? *sings* "It's a small world after aaaaallll..."

Awesome, lepelaar!

I had a seriously KICKASS afternoon helping the Groningen balfolkers teach basic balfolk, Irish and Scottish steps. Learned a Breton thing or two, and talked one of the new dancers into galloping around the room with me (polka AND hornpipe).

Not today's most awesome thing, but yesterday:

Me and Mr 8 had a spare day off work due to a canceled show, so we took the coach to London for the day. We went to the Natural History Museum and saw the dinosaur exhibition, got lunch at Loving Hut, went shopping in Camden (it's changed so much since I was there 1 months ago - it's huge!) and bought some awesome clothes at Black Rose, got some wonderful baked treats from the Cookies and Scream stall, bought comic books then met a dear old friend in Soho for dinner.

I got out of work early and when I checked my phone before I left I had a message saying to pick my favorite restaurant because we're going out to eat, which I think means my s.o. got an awesome raise and now we can save so much monies to go on vacations!
